Paolo Arullani

Born in Rome on 3 April 1938, he has been Honorary President of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome since 2013.

In 1962 Paolo Arullani graduated with top marks in Medicine and Surgery from the “La Sapienza” University in Rome and the Catania Academic University. His thesis won the “Carlo Erba” Award.

After completing his studies, he worked as an Assistant at the “La Sapienza” University with Professors Cataldo Cassano and Aldo Torsoli, specializing in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine and lecturing in Medical semiotics. As part of his research activity, at that time he developed the first colonoscopies using the then innovative end to end methodology and participated in numerous international conferences.

In 1975 he relocated to Milan where he worked in the Department of Clinical Medicine of the State University, involved in developing new tutoring methods for university colleges, distance learning and relations between University and business.

During that same period he was appointed Member of the Board of the RUI Foundation.

In 1989 he set up the Technical and Organizing Committee responsible for the establishment of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, with the intention of creating a teaching system that was more focused on service to the student, as well as a University Hospital that would operate on the principles of “more humanized medical care”. Right from the very beginning, the University’s educational activities have been characterized by the particular emphasis placed on the study of ethics and anthropology within the study curriculum of the individual Degree Courses, and the creation of highly effective training programs for nursing staff, which is considered to be of fundamental importance for the proper management of the medical-healthcare system and for the establishment of a “therapeutic alliance” with the patient.

He was also President of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome from 2001 to 2013 and, in this capacity, he oversaw the creation of the new Trigoria University Campus that was inaugurated on 14 March, 2008.

In 2015 he set up the Rome Biomedical Campus University Foundation whose he is the President.

He has been member of the General Council of Confindustria since 2017.
