Felice Barela

Born in Naples on 3 June 1950, he has been President of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome since 2 May 2013.

Felice Barela graduated in 1972 with a Degree in Philosophy from “La Sapienza” University in Rome, where he completed studies begun at the “Cattolica” University in Milan from 1968 to 1970. He then obtained the “Executive Master in Healthcare & Pharmaceutical Administration” qualification from the LUISS Business School (in collaboration with the Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Health Administration).

In the two years following his graduation he conducted research and specialization activities at “La Sapienza” University in Rome as part of the CNR program for the development of  the “European Intellectual Lexicon”.

Between 1975 and 1992 he held various professional posts in Institutions operating in the fields of university education and development cooperation, including the role of Director of the “RUI” International University College in Rome from 1975 to 1978.

In the 1990s, he became intensely involved in laying down the basic groundwork that eventually led to the establishment of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome in 1993. In that same year he was appointed Chairman of the Campus Bio-Medico Association, the body that promotes the University, a position he held until he was elected President of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome in 2013.

Within the confines of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, he also held the post of General Manager of the University Hospital from 1999 to 2008, during which time, specifically in 2007, he participated in a Regional Healthcare Services Agency (now known as Agenas) working group on the state of relations between the National Healthcare Service and Universities with regard to healthcare, education and research.

From 2009 to 2013 he was a Member of the University Council and Vice-President of the “Gaetano e Mafalda Luce” Foundation and during this period he oversaw the establishment in Milan of the Mafalda Luce Centre for Pervasive Developmental Disorders, which is governed scientifically by the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital.
