The Foundation Year Call for admission is now open for the a.y. 2021/2022

UCBM may activate a Foundation Programme aimed at facilitating the admission of international students to the courses of study of each Faculty, starting next academic year.

Admission to the programme is based on the assessment of applications received between 26th February 2021 and 14th May 2021 (first Call for Admission). The application must include: curriculum vitae, motivation letter. If deemed necessary, an interview may be requested. The merit ranking will be published by 21st May 2021 and application/payment must be made by 30th May 2021.

If the reserved places (no more than 15 for Medicine and Surgery and 5 for Food Science and Human Nutrition) are not filled by 31st May 2021, a new procedure will be activated from 7th June to 7th July 2021 (potential second Call for Admission). The merit ranking will be published by 14th July 2021 and enrolment/payment must be made by 21st July 2021.

Programme objectives

The aim of the Foundation Year Programme is to enable international students who wish to study in Italy to:

- strengthen their knowledge on the subjects covered in the admission tests regarding the 6-year Master’s Degree Programme in Medicine and Surgery and the bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition.

- improve their Italian/English language skills for academic purposes

Recipients

- Non-EU students who wish to prepare to study Medicine and Surgery or Food Science and Human Nutrition.

- Non-EU students who have failed to pass the admission tests and wish to try again the following year, specifically working on their knowledge gaps, improving their chances of being admitted

Programme admission is subject to the evaluation of the applications received from 26th February to 14th May 2021 (first Call for Admission). The application has to include a CV, a motivation letter. If necessary, an interview may be required. The merit ranking is published by 21st May 2021 and enrolment/payment needs to be completed by 30th May 2021.

Should the available seats (15 for Medicine and Surgery and 5 for Food Science and Human Nutrition) not be allocated by the 30th May 2021, a potential second Call for Admission may open.

Potential Candidates

Eligible candidates must have:

- a secondary-school diploma obtained abroad after at least 11 years of schooling

- an upper-intermediate level of English (B2)

Other activities

In order to enable students to further develop their academic skills UCBM provides the following services:

- logistical support with regard to accommodation and visa procedures

- counselling services with a personal tutor

- academic and language tutoring (support is given in English and Italian)

- peer-to-peer meetings

- Intensive Italian language course (3 weeks, 60 hours)

- Standard Italian language course during the Foundation Year

Teaching Methods and Academic Calendar

The academic calendar is organised on a weekly basis from Mondays to Saturdays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Every week there are between 20 and 25 hours of teaching activities scheduled. These include frontal lectures and online learning, problem-based learning (PBL) and collaborative learning. Attendance is compulsory for at least 75% per subject (also in online mode). 

Students enrolled in the Foundation Programme will have free access to the University's libraries and study areas.

The programme is organised in two semesters followed by two standard Exam sessions:

- First semester: from 1st September 2021 to 15th January 2022
  1st Exam session (from 7th January to 5th March 2022)

- Second semester: from 8th March to 4th June 2022
  2nd Exam session (from 3rd June to 30th July 2022)

Learning Assessment

Learning assessment is evaluated through in-itinere tests and final examinations. These tests may be carried out in written and/or oral form. 

Final assessment

In order to obtain the final qualification of the programme, students must achieve:

- at least 75% of attendance in each single course

- a positive assessment in each single course

Students of the Foundation Year programme who will pass the academic year 2022/2023 admission test to the Master’s Degree Programme in Medicine and Surgery at Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, may be exempt from taking specific modules of their first year’s exams if they have passed the corresponding subjects of the Foundation Year with a positive evaluation.

The secondary-school diploma and the Declaration of Value can be submitted at a later stage.

 

Tuition fee

The cost of the Foundation Year programme is 6,000 €.
Payment is divided into two instalments:

- 3,000 € at the time of enrolment

- 3,000 € by 28th December 2021
