DAHMS - Distributed Architecture Home Modular Multifunctional Systems

Project objectives

DAHMS (Distributed Architecture Home Modular Multifunctional Systems) is a project for the development of modular and multifunctional systems for Home Automation and Remote Healthcare that are integrated with one another. It is based on optimal ICT resources, allocated between Local Resources and Remote Servers, and on significant modularity and commonality between the integrated features.

The primary operational objectives of DAHMS are:

  • To improve quality of life and the degree of self-sufficiency of chronically ill patients and / or those at risk, particularly the elderly and disabled through the integration of Home Automation functionality with the specific Medical and Social care capabilities for the target population.
  • Achieve a considerable reduction in costs in production, installation and maintenance through architectural distribution, functional modularity and commonality and, consequently, a reduction in prices for institutional users and the assisted.
  • Provide adequate economic sustainability for institutional users and the assisted through compensation for competence costs through savings.

The primary features that will be implemented through DAHMS are:

  • Health monitoring (proper nutrition, vital signs, proper use of medications, proper mobility and execution of physical exercises / rehabilitation).
  • Social follow-up (communications for corrective and educative actions on lifestyle and the stimulation of intellectual interests in order to avoid dangerous states of neglect and laxity).
  • Support for self-sufficiency (for mobility and retrieval of objects, safety at home and to avoid inefficiencies and food and energy waste).

The following will be developed in more detail:

  • Monitoring the continuous and / or on-demand health state through non-invasive sensors and tracking systems, voice / video IP communication and support for interactive visual / voice, all in seamless mode, both at home and in mobility.
  • Management / tracking / optimum utilization of food and education / monitoring for proper nutrition.
  • Support for rehabilitation.
  • Help with mobility and location of objects.
  • Integrated control, local and remote of electric utilities (particularly household electrical equipment) and heating.
  • Support for security systems and local and remote alarms.
