PROTEUS - PROtection and Training support for Endoscopic Unoffensive Surgery

Project objectives

This applied research project in the field of endoscopic surgery aims at exploring the possibility of offering surgeons new visual aids to mitigate the most common risks associated to endoscopic surgery. In particular, the project focuses on locating various anatomic structures based on their different temperatures. By exploiting the thermal gradients of various tissues, infrared vision laparoscopy gives the possibility to make deeper structures visible that are hardly visible with normal visible-light optical laparoscope.
