The LifeHand experimental protocol was developed thanks to the participation and contribution of four institutions:

• The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa, who designed and developed the biomimetic hand and the communication algorithm between the same hand and the patient’s nervous system;
• University “Campus Bio-Medico” of Rome (Neurology, Orthopedics, Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Biomedical Robotics and Biomicrosystems Units), responsible for the clinical experimentation;
• IBMT Fraunhofer Gesellshaft, which designed and realized the electrodes;
• Autonomous University of Barcelona, which performed the experimentation of tf-LIFE electrodes on animals.

The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa (SSSUP) has coordinated almost all the projects funded by the European Commission in this area. Moreover, SSSUP researchers designed and developed the biomechatronic hand prototypes, also developing, together with the Bioengineering Laboratories of the University “Campus Bio-Medico”, the communication algorithms between the prosthesis and the patient’s nervous system.

The University “Campus Bio-Medico” was responsible for clinical experimentation of the tf-LIFE electrodes on humans, with regards to both the medical aspects and technological support.
