The accreditation process for the Degree Course by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MUR) is underway.
The Master's Degree Course in Bio-Sciences for Food, Nutrition and Health (BANS) trains experts with advanced biological skills and is characterized by a solid educational curriculum e interdisciplinary, which integrates advanced skills in the field of biosciences applied to food, nutrition and health promotion.
From the early stages of the process, particular attention is paid to understanding the mechanisms biological, biochemical and physiological at the basis of nutritional and metabolic processes, with an approach oriented towards prevention and well-being.
The progressive integration between basic disciplines, characterising teachings and applied activities allows the student to develop a systemic vision and updated on the interactions between food, nutrition and health, promoting the development of advanced scientific and methodological skills and the construction of a highly qualified professional profile.
The study plan is designed without preparatory exams and includes two curricula: "Human Nutrition" e “Feeding the world.” In this last curriculum, some of the courses are taught in English.
The program includes a mandatory English language course and the opportunity to participate in international mobility programs, including Erasmus+, with recognition of training activities (including internships) undertaken abroad.
Il first year It is aimed at deepening advanced knowledge in biosciences applied to food and nutrition, with particular reference to biochemical mechanisms, physiological and molecular involved in the nutritional, metabolic and health maintenance processes.
Il second year It is aimed at integrating and applying the skills acquired, with a focus on specialist areas related to human nutrition: from the various pathologies connected with power, food safety and quality, to the prevention and promotion of health.
The second year also includes a synthesis of the theoretical and practical contents learned through curricular internships, as well as the development of critical analysis, planning and scientific research skills, culminating in the preparation of the final exam.
The course also enhances continuous updating technological innovation and achievement comparison with international scientific literature, promoting the development of transversal skills and planning autonomy.
This is a highly demanding course which will open many career opportunities across numerous medical fields.
Graduates of the Master's degree will hold highly professional positions in all work contexts that require the application of biological knowledge and skills in the food and nutritional fields, including knowledge of the most modern methods for analyzing body composition, diet-related pathologies, or those requiring specific nutritional intakes. Graduates may pursue careers that may lead to highly responsible management roles. They may pursue their profession as: Nutrition Biologist, Biologist or Researcher in Biological Sciences
Skills associated with the function:
In general, the graduate acquires skills that enable him to:
- carry out nutritional counseling interventions for individuals or groups of people
- carry out research and development activities in university laboratories, other public or private research institutions, and in industry;
- direct and provide consultancy for marketing activities in the relevant industrial sectors (including promotional activities and the organization of training and events in the specific area of expertise);
- conduct scientific literature analysis, produce dossiers and reports, and disseminate knowledge in the food, nutritional, and health fields;
-conduct study and intervention programs, including those aimed at developing countries and vulnerable population groups, relating to the relationship between nutrition and health;
- oversee food and nutritional aspects and food quality and procurement controls in various forms of collective catering;
-conducts nutritional epidemiology and eating habits surveys.
The Master's Degree Programme prepares graduates with advanced scientific skills in the field of applied sciences related to food, nutrition and health, suitable for working in professional contexts with a high technical-scientific content, particularly in:
Graduates will be eligible to take the state exam for professional licensing and subsequently register with the Order of Biologists. They will also be eligible for PhD programs, all specialization schools open to biologists, and second-level master's programs, upon passing the relevant competitive exams.
