The Master is established at the Department of Linguistic-Literary, Historical-Philosophical and Legal Studies (Distu), with the Department for the Innovation of Biological, Agri-food and Forestry Systems (Dibaf) of the University of Tuscia-Viterbo, jointly with theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, in collaboration with the Italian Association of Food Law (Aida) and in cooperation with the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (Mipaaf).


Recipients and access requirements
The Master is aimed at EU and non-EU citizens with a regular residence permit in Italy, in possession of an old system degree or an equivalent specialist/master's degree, with preference for the following degree classes: Class LMG/01 Single-cycle law ; Class LM-63 Public Administration Sciences; Class LM-61 Human Nutrition Sciences; Class LM-69 Agricultural Sciences and Technologies; Class LM-70 Food Science and Technology; Class LM-6 Biology; Class LM-7 Biotechnology; Class LM-73 Forestry and Environmental Sciences and Technologies; Class LM-75 Science and Technology for the Environment and the Territory; Class LM-56 Economics Sciences; Class LM-59 Public, Business and Advertising Communication Sciences; Class LM-77 Economics and Business Sciences. 


Educational objectives
The Master's main objective is to provide participants with specialized legal knowledge, both systematic and operational, in the area of ​​Food Law, through the use of a multidisciplinary approach.

The course proposes a critical study of the most recent food legislation, in a comparative perspective and with particular attention to the guidelines of jurisprudence and administration. Approximately 20% of the didactic commitment, the course also includes modules dedicated to the acquisition of the basic scientific knowledge tools essential for the correct application of the provisions on the subject by public and private legal operators, as well as the acquisition of knowledge related to the commercialization and marketing of products. The training course also takes into account the new emerging disciplinary lines, with the analysis and in-depth analysis of the reform proposals currently under discussion at national, European and international level. 


Didactic structure
The Master provides a total of 60 credits, with a commitment of 1500 hours.

The training credits are divided as follows:

  • 14 ECTS lectures
  • 8 ECTS exercises and work groups
  • 12 CFU internships/internships
  • 6 credits thesis
  • 20 ECTS individual study

  • Module 3 - The global dimension of food law (IUS/03 – IUS/10)
  • Module 4 - Market regulation and the single CMO (IUS/03 – IUS/05)
  • Module 5 - Food products and nutritional profiles (BIO/04 – AGR/15)
  • Module 6 - Food labeling and Made in Italy (IUS/03)
  • Module 7 - DOP, IGP, TSG and other signs of quality (IUS/03 – AGR/01)
  • Module 8 - Quality, controls, certifications (IUS/03 – IUS/01 – IUS/10)
  • Module 9 - Novel foods and GMOs (AGR/15 – BIO/04 - IUS/03)
  • Module 10 - Criminal law in the agri-food sector (IUS/17–IUS/03)
  • Module 11 - Food products and technologies (AGR/15-BIO/04-CHIM/11-IUS/03)
  • Module 12 - The protection of food consumers (IUS/01-IUS/03-IUS/10-IUS/15)
  • Module 13 - Environment, renewable sources and food sector (IUS/10 – IUS/03)
  • Module 14 - Comparative food law (IUS/03 – IUS/02 – IUS/21) 


Frequency mode
Lessons will start on 27 January 2017 and end on 20 January 2018. They will normally take place on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings, except for internships, workshops and the first week of July 2017.


Headquarters of educational activities
The Master will be based at the University of Tuscia, but part of the lessons will be held in Rome, at the Campus Bio-Medico University, and for a week in July 2017 at the Pieve Tesino (TN) headquarters of the University of Tuscia.


Method of admission
The application for admission to the selection must be written on the appropriate form which can be downloaded from University of Tuscia website. The necessary documentation for the evaluation of qualifications must be attached to the application, both for the purpose of admission and for any reduction of the enrollment fee in accordance with the provisions of art. 8 of the Teaching Regulations. The deadline for submitting applications for admission is January 12, 2017. The application, signed and accompanied by the documentation specified in the application form, must be submitted online at the address [email protected] indicating in the subject line "Application for admission to the Master's in Food Law".

The selections will be made starting from 13 January 2017 and will end within 23 January 2017.


Presentation of titles
Together with the application, the candidate must present the following documentation:

  • degree certificate on unstamped paper certifying the marks obtained in the profit exams and in the graduation exam, as well as the date of graduation
  • CV, indicating the title of the degree thesis and a brief description of its content (max. 2 pages), as well as the activities carried out after graduation and currently
  • indication of any post-graduate courses attended
  • list of possible publications
  • any other documentation suitable to demonstrate the qualification for admission to the Master
  • any request for a reduced amount of the registration fee pursuant to art. 8 of the Teaching Regulations
  • photocopy of a valid identity document, signed by the candidate for conformity with the original.

Failure to present the documents listed above prevents the attribution of points for the related qualifications and credits. The Selection Commission has the right to request any supplementary documents. The list of admitted candidates will be published starting from 11 January 2017 a this web address.

Important: In the event that, from the documentation presented by the candidate, there arechiarafalse or mendacious information relevant for the purposes of admission to the selection, enrollment and determination of the contribution due, without prejudice to the penal sanctions pursuant to art. 76 of Presidential Decree no. 445 dated 28/12/2000, the candidate will be automatically excluded.


Registration and payment
Pursuant to art. 8 of the Academic Regulations, the enrollment fee is set at € 3.000,00, reduced to € 2.000,00 for graduates who have been graduates for no more than three years with a grade of at least 100/110 who are not in a permanent job at the time of submitting the application registration fee, and must be paid in two instalments:

  • the first, equal to 60% of the contribution due, no later than 26 January 2017
  • the second, equal to 40% of the contribution due, no later than 22 June 2017.
