Scientific direction
Prof. Roberto Guida
Full Professor of Economics of Financial Intermediaries - Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma
Purpose
The University Specialization Course in "Data Scientist" is part of the Innovation & Sustainability (I&S) Project, promoted byUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma in partnership with Marzotto Venture Accelerator.
Educational objectives
The course will lead to the acquisition of solid theoretical, practical and methodological foundations in the Data Science sector, forming skills that are increasingly in demand in the context of digital transformation, society and industry 4.0.
In particular, the methodologies, techniques and technologies of statistical-descriptive data analysis, machine learning, deep learning and big data processing - including data quality, data mining and data visualization - and Cloud Systems will be explored.
The path combines technical-specialist skills with the learning of transversal and behavioral skills (soft skills) of problem solving, creative intuition and time management necessary for the role of Data Scientist.

The course is aimed at:
- Specialists in IT management and big data analysis systems for small, medium and large companies that carry out "data intensive" activities in the most diverse sectors: IT and telephony, banks and insurance companies, e-commerce, retail and large-scale distribution, media and communication, transport and logistics, industry and Public Administration, consultancy firms specialized in Business Intelligence and Digital Transformation.
- Those who are interested in taking on the role of Data Scientist or already hold this role and want to strengthen and update their skillset with respect to the latest technological evolutions.
- Specialists who work in the field of consultancy and outsourced management of services who want to explore the evolution of IT management and data analysis systems.
Below are the requirements to participate:
- Bachelor's degree (at least three years) in computer science.
- Good knowledge of data management and analysis systems and technologies, distributed systems and cloud technologies.
Participation in the course is incompatible with enrollment in other university study courses, namely: Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, Specialization course, Research Doctorate, active training internship (TFA) and other university Master's.

Course structure
The course is structured in 6 modules, each lasting 2 days.
The teaching structure of the course is given below:
MODULE | DESCRIPTION | ECTS |
CFU DESCRIPTION FORM CLOUD SYSTEMS |
The module offers an overview of the main Cloud technologies currently available for solving the most frequent distributed application problems, with a focus on data management, manipulation, analysis, collection and distribution solutions. Case study discussions are scheduled during the module. | 2 |
DATA QUALITY, MINING AND VISUALIZATION | The module provides the modeling and application tools underlying quality analysis, information extraction and data visualization. The module is delivered by alternating the formal description of the tools, analytical and practical, and their application in concrete contexts. | 2 |
MACHINE LEARNING AND BIG DATA | The module provides the modeling and application tools underlying data analysis using machine learning logics and explores the solutions to the implementation problems of these algorithms on large databases. The module is delivered by alternating the formal description of the tools, analytical and practical, and their application in concrete contexts. | 2 |
STATISTICAL-DESCRIPTIVE DATA ANALYSIS | The module provides the input tools for data analysis by focusing attention on the synthetic descriptive forms and graphical representations useful for their understanding. Starting from elementary indicators, the module reaches multivariate descriptive forms and the analysis of marginal and joint distributions. Practical sessions and dataset analysis are foreseen through the techniques learned during the course. | 2 |
DEEP LEARNING | The module provides the theoretical-practical elements for the development and understanding of NN and deep learning algorithms. The module will provide participants with the information needed to understand, design and implement complex neural networks, as well as training and updating techniques. The tools and state-of-the-art solutions for the solution of the main classification problems will also be transferred to the learner. | 2 |
EXPERT SOFT SKILLS LAB | The module will allow the learner to acquire skills regarding:
- Recognize and use your own mental, physical and emotional energy. |
2 |
PROJECT WORK | Preparation and presentation of the project work at the end of the course | 3 |
TOTAL CFUs | 15 |
Teaching methodology
The Course will be delivered in Phygital mode which combines the online and offline worlds trying to take the best aspects of each to create a more complete and satisfying customer experience.
Title issued and certification
The learners who complete the course with the discussion of the final Project Work and who comply with the administrative obligations will be awarded the title of "Data Scientist" specialization to which 15 credits are attributed.
Those who do not discuss the final Project Work will be issued a certificate of participation in the Executive Course in "Data Scientist".
Duration, start date and location
The course will last 2 months. The start date is on 9 December 2022.
The lessons will take place at the following locations:
