Artificial Intelligence and health for the new frontiers of medicine, robotics and hospitals of the future, digital humanism and neuroscience, but also sustainability, energy and space in the challenges of tomorrow: these are the main themes reviewed on the first day of the event.

Rome March, 11: 2025 - It opened today EmTech Italy 2025 Human & Tech, the leading event for emerging technologies, which made its official debut in Italy with high-level presentations, inspiring discussions, and cutting-edge technology demonstrations. Organized by MIT Technology Review Italy and by the 'Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, and hosted at Cu.Bo (CUltural BOx), the event brings together until tomorrow international experts, academics, institutional leaders and voices from the industrial sector to explore the impact of Artificial Intelligence on health, energy and society.

The event hosts 700 opinion leaders, decision makers, academics, experts and world-renowned CEOs on the first day, who operate in these sectors and help drive the development of the economy and innovation in society, take part together with representatives of institutions at all levels.

Over 50 speakers including authoritative, institutional and academic names they alternate in more than 20 round tables e keynote address presenting success stories and opportunities for discussion on the tools and strategies for developing new technologies for practical applications in the three main areas.

The proceedings began with institutional greetings from MIT and theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, which was followed by the interventions of Renato Brunetta, President of National Council of Economy and Labour, and Valentine Valentini, Deputy Minister of Businesses and Made in ItalyThe speakers emphasized the strategic importance of innovation for the country's growth and the importance of events like EmTech in stimulating debate on new technologies and sustainable development.

This year, for the first time, EmTech is taking place in Rome, Italy. It is a high-level platform that brings together representatives from the public and private sectors for a concrete discussion on the transformative effects of technology, with a particular focus on Artificial Intelligence and its impact on people's lives. It represents the space where the great projects of the future will be born and an opportunity to position Italy at the center of this ecosystem. Our country boasts the fourth place in the world in scientific production and possesses technological excellence of international importance, which we have a duty to enhance and promote beyond our national borders. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the partners who supported this initiative and to the 50 speakers, both Italian and international, who chose to contribute to these two days of in-depth discussion on topics such as health, biotechnology, the environment, sustainability, and society. - comments Thomas Canonici, editor of MIT Technology Review Italia.

The EmTech Italy 2025 event was organized in close collaboration with MIT Technology Review, with the aim of promoting innovation through direct dialogue between participating companies and numerous institutions, universities, and research organizations. It was also very stimulating to host this event in our new Cu.Bo (CUltural BOx) building, dedicated to advanced teaching and simulating the use of innovative technologies. This is a very significant initiative for our country, carried out in synergy with a highly qualified team, whom I sincerely thank for their valuable contribution. This event represents a significant opportunity to strengthen the international network and accelerate innovation as a driver of competitiveness for the industrial sector, as well as resilience in the face of evolving global scenarios. We are convinced that this initiative is essential to consolidate our collaboration with the United States and the entire global community of innovators. Furthermore, we are interested in the best practices of organizations like MIT, such as its recently launched DeepTech Innovation Hub in Japan, with the hope of being able to directly contribute to the development of this initiative. of new hubs dedicated to technology transfer and advanced and sustainable innovation in our country and in Europe.” - explains the teacher Eugenio Guglielmelli, Rector ofUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma

Among the most anticipated moments, the keynote of Alec ross, author of The Industries of the Future and former senior advisor for innovation at the U.S. Department of State, who has explored the topic of digitalization and growth in the age of artificial intelligence: Technology is redefining the way we work, communicate, and innovate. In this scenario, events like EmTech Italy are crucial for driving responsible and sustainable transformation. When we talk about Artificial Intelligence, we need to distinguish four fundamental categories. The first is perceptual, or the technology that recognizes voice, text, and images, like Siri or the voice assistants in our cars. This is the foundation upon which modern AI has developed. Today, however, the main protagonist is generative AI, which doesn't just understand, but creates new content: text, images, music. This is the one that's attracting the most attention, but some are already looking beyond. The next step is autonomous AI, capable of completing complex tasks. It doesn't just answer questions, but also performs actions: booking a trip, organizing a schedule, optimizing a system. This is the real revolution underway. Finally, there's physical AI, where technology becomes tangible: drones, robots, industrial automation. Here, Italy can be a leader, thanks to its tradition in manufacturing and precision industry. The future of AI isn't just in large-scale models. linguistic, but in concrete applications that transform the real world." - says Alec ross.

The event also featured practical demonstrations of innovations applied to the hospital setting. Professor Leandro Pecchia and the teacher Loredana Zollo,Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, respectively presented solutions of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Used in Clinical Fields: among these, Frakie, a robot dog that uses its sense of smell to search for bacteria and fungi, helping to fight infections that develop within hospitals; Thiago, a humanoid robot that supports the work carried out by nurses: equipped with sensors, cameras and mechanical arms, it is used in healthcare and domestic contexts to transport medicines, organs and delicate materials; a third robot called Hosbot, is instead used in hospital logistics services.

AI and health for the new frontiers of medicine, robotics and hospitals of the future, digital humanism and neuroscience, but also sustainability, energy and space in the challenges of tomorrow.: these are the main ones, in short topics reviewed on the first day of the event. Tomorrow the day will be dedicated to ethical challenges that the sector will have to face between new developments in emerging technologies and responsible applications in the industryaerospace and Smart cities.
