Cybersecurity and new jobs: essential components for the digital transition
Cybersecurity is less and less a subject for "insiders" and this is demonstrated by the repeated large-scale attacks but also by the repercussions on world economies. To spread a culture of security in the IT field (4 out of 10 Italians do not know the topic - Censis-DeepCyber Report of April 2022), the training program on cybersecurity was presented yesterday, Monday 27 February Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Microsoft Italia in partnership withUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma. Together they are promoters of a 'Cybersecurity Alliance which has as its object both the training program to develop skills in the professional field, and awareness in schools and citizens.
During the meeting at theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, the training program was illustrated which has already involved more than 2 thousand people since last October. In particular, routes have been planned for students and citizens even in conditions of fragility in collaboration with local universities, public authorities, small and medium-sized enterprises. The initiatives include i "job talks" with Microsoft experts to orient and discover the different professional figures and, finally, collaborative "hacker against hacker" challenges for university and secondary students. Just today's final challenge brought 70 young finalists among the 600 involved to challenge each other in the development and simulation of some simple, but effective, cyber attacks, to learn how to defend themselves in the field.
"Today marks the end of a training course which saw the collaboration between Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma and Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the support of Microsoft with which we have started cyber security literacy for over 300 students in secondary schools and university courses not in the engineering area - has ofchiarato Andrea Rossi, CEO and General Manager UCBM - We strongly wanted to give our contribution to this project in the awareness that today digital skills are essential for entering the world of work and are essential in particular for understanding the complexity in which we are immersed. A young person today must know how to deal with the risks associated with information security that pervade every aspect of life and know how it will affect his work. As a University we feel the responsibility to train future workers on these issues. Also for this reason, we are happy to support the alliance that was born with Ambizione Italia for Cybersecurity by renewing the relationship that has linked us to the Fondazione Mondo Digitale for years and thus strengthening our training project that looks at the person in its entirety".
Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Digital World Foundation, in his speech he highlighted how "cybersecurity now transcends the rigid perimeters of the past to invest the daily concerns of all of us, as confirmed by the news of these days. The Ambizione Italia path for Cybersecurity also demonstrates an important assumption especially for the youngest and for those who want to seize the opportunities in the workplace: there are so many connections generated, so many professional specializations. Those who are seriously interested in being part of it can find a place regardless of the course of study already undertaken".
"The data speaks for itself: IT security professionals are needed to protect our systems, businesses and the critical infrastructures that hold the country together - stated the teacher. Roberto Setola, Full Professor of Automatica and Director of the Master in Homeland Security UCBM - In Italy alone we suffer from a shortage of around 100 experts and worldwide demand for cybersecurity workers exceeds 3,4 million units. A sign that computer security is today the real frontier of globalization from which there is no going back by closing oneself within one's own borders but, on the contrary, ever greater system protection and continuous updating are necessary to protect our lives from those computer attacks that more and more often they could create difficulties. From our apps on the phone, to the water flowing in the taps at home or a simple journey on the train and highway, everything that travels on computer networks must be monitored, protected and defended against potential attacks. With our university courses and Masters we have been working for over 15 years to place these professionals on the job market. We believe in training on these issues since school years and for this reason we have been collaborating with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale for years".
