His lectio doctoralis features quantum physics, from philosophy of nature to technology for the future

On the occasion of the inauguration of the 588th academic year of the University of Catania, the Professor Emeritus Massimo Inguscio, professor of Matter Physics at theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, was awarded the title of PhD in Physics honoris causa

The prestigious recognition crowns the long career of the prof. Inguscio, Made of achievements and important scientific merits, including the creation of the first Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) in Italy and the development of experimental techniques for atomic physics, matter physics and quantum technologies.

In his lectio doctoralis the Accademia dei Lincei retraced the rapid evolution of quantum physics that, "Originally – as he explained – was almost a philosophy of nature, but from it transistors, lasers, semiconductors and other technologies, also useful for monitoring the state of health of the Earth and produce sustainable food, were born"..

Applications "fundamental to the future world who will find our children and grandchildren" underlined prof. Inguscio who, precisely to young people, addresses the final wish of "being able to freely undertake the fascinating adventure in the world of research".

To deliver the parchment to Inguscio il Magnificent Rector of the University of Catania Francesco Priolo. Present at the ceremony, dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the activation of research doctorates in Italy, the new Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini.
