"Media hoaxes": in class with teachers and experts to recognize and fight them
5 September 2018 - One Fake News (or media hoax, to put it in Italian), is according to the Treccani Institute "information that does not correspond in part or entirely to the truth, intentionally disclosed through the media and characterized by an apparent plausibility, which facilitates its sharing and dissemination even in the absence of a verification of the sources".
We live in a historical period in which the massive use of social media and the internet allows more and more people to get in touch with each other, express an opinion and above all get information independently from the classic 20pm newscast. But precisely this independent information, if not mediated by professionals and experts, can be a double-edged sword and lead people to come across artfully created fake news. Fake news can be considered as a real virus that damages the relationship of trust between the reader and the media but not only that, it is above all the subjects mentioned in the news that are damaged, such as for example a company, a public figure or even an entire country through the manipulation of false political and social news.
This and more will be discussed on 12 and 13 October at the Advanced Training Course on "Methods and Techniques for the Analysis and Contrast of Fake News", organized within the didactic program of the Master in "Homeland Security - systems, methods and tools for security and crisis management". To hold the lessons will be academics, business professionals and industry experts, with which learners will be able to interact and explore topics such as: social media, big data, brand perception, persuasion strategy and of course countermeasures to counter fake news.
