Three-year partnership for the development of research projects on medical devices based on natural substances

5 May 2022 - Investigate the knowledge of complex natural substances, study the clinic of medical devices based on substances, encourage scientific and clinical research and promote the innovative use of plant substances in the therapeutic field. These are the main objectives of the framework agreement signed today by teacher. Paolo Arullani, President of Biomedical University Foundation, and Dr. Massimo Mercati, CEO of Aboca.

The two companies have entered into a three-year collaboration agreement, aimed at carrying out initiatives on topics of common interest. There Biomedical University Foundation has among its purposes that of enhancing, supporting and promoting the founding principles of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome and the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital Foundation; Aboca is a leading Italian company in the development of innovative therapeutic solutions based on 100% natural molecular complexes. Founded in 1978 in Sansepolcro (Ar), today it has over 1600 employees and is spread, through branches and distributors, in 21 countries.

Going into more detail, the agreement specifies the intention to carry out common projects in various ways: from training activities aimed at understanding the composition and biological activity of medical devices based on natural substances, up to their clinical validation. The pact also provides for the possibility of carrying out preclinical studies to identify the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of action of complex natural substances. The concrete forms of collaboration will be made operational through individual implementation protocols with the support of the Campus Bio-Medico University and the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital Foundation.

"A friendship that has already been fruitful for years with Aboca and theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, - explains Paolo Arullani, President Biomedical University Foundation - and the agreement that we sign today reaffirms the common will to put man and his well-being in the center of the surrounding environment, as recalled by the mission of our university and polyclinic, or rather "the person at the centre", in particular as patient. Together, through concrete projects, we will carry forward the "one health approach" which requires collaborative commitment between several disciplines, typical of the Campus, thanks to the synergy between three faculties such as Medicine and Surgery, Engineering and Sciences and Technologies for Man and for the Environment, in order to maintain that sense of unity and balance between the human being and the environment".

"It is a real vocation for the Campus Bio-Medico University and for the Policlinico Foundation to generate continuous and constant relationships with companies. This agreement is an example of how common activities and breadth of horizons between institutions and the productive world can converge and offer a contribution to growth and to the offer of training, research and assistance." Carlo Tosti, President of the Campus Bio‐Medico University of Rome and of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital Foundation.

"For Aboca this is a strategic agreement – has ofchiarato Massimo Mercati, CEO of Aboca – a partnership that opens up important perspectives and allows us to enhance what we have been proposing for years. We are pioneers and leaders in the study of complex natural substances and through our research we work daily on the development of Substance-Based Medical Devices. Thanks to the activities that we will be able to carry out with the Biomedical University Foundation, we will be able to continue the path of therapeutic innovation, collect new scientific evidence and promote a new way of treating, more sustainable for the body and the environment".
