23 October 2020 - The message from the Rector, the DGU and all the teachers of theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma
Dear students and dear families,
We hereby inform you of how we are reorganizing the activities in the light of the ordinance of the Lazio Region (drafted by the Minister of Health in agreement with the President of the Lazio Region), aimed at providing for further measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, in force as far as we are concerned starting from Monday 26 next
In particular, in article 3 the ordinance reads "(Enhancement of integrated digital teaching in secondary schools and universities) in point 2. Universities increase the use of integrated digital teaching for a share equal to seventy-five percent of enrolled students, with the exclusion of training activities that require physical presence or the use of instruments (such as, for example, activities in scientific laboratories, training activities to be carried out necessarily in clinical services according to plans defined by the structures in which they are carried out, internship activities in health area degree courses that cannot be postponed)."
Given that the will of our University since the beginning of the current academic year has been to return to normality by focusing on face-to-face lessons in compliance with all safety standards through a series of investments, however, today, in light of the evolution of the pandemic, we are forced to reorganize activities in compliance with the reference standards.
Therefore from Monday 26 next the activities will be reorganized as follows:
1. The organization of the following courses will be maintained exactly as it is today (according to the current methods which in any case provide for around 30% of the lessons remotely and the rest in presence):
- 1st and 2nd year degree course in Medicine and Surgery;
- 1st and 2nd year CdL Medicine and Surgery;
- 1st and 2nd year Physiotherapy;
- 1st and 2nd year Nursing;
- 1st and 2nd year TRR;
- 1st and 2nd year Industrial Engineering;
- 1st and 2nd year Sanu;
- 1st year of all master's degree programs (from 2 November 2020) with the exception of the degree course of the 2nd year of the master's degree in Biomedical Engineering which continues with the current scheduling in attendance on Thursdays only.
The lessons of the various degree courses relating to years not mentioned above will be carried out entirely remotely while an attempt will be made to continue in the presence of the practical activities of internship, laboratory, thesis, etc.
At the moment all scheduled lesson times remain unchanged.
2. The security measures to be respected remain the same as communicated so far.
3. The lessons in presence and also remotely will be delivered by the teachers mainly physically staying at the University in the same classrooms already foreseen in the current calendar.
4. For students who are expected to attend lessons at the University, it will be possible to use the University canteen in strict compliance with safety regulations.
5. The activities necessary for carrying out the degree theses will also be managed in person, guaranteeing that you students complete the course on time; attendance will be authorized and managed with the utmost respect for safety rules.
6. The laboratory activities will be guaranteed and managed even in presence by organizing the activities with a number such as to guarantee maximum compliance with the safety rules.
7. With regard to the internships, the following is reported:
to. the internships are temporarily suspended inside the CBM University Hospital building while they continue in the CESA and Longoni buildings by periodically swabbing at the Campus drive-in where a preferential lane has been set up for students;
b. the internships at the University Hospital will be resumed as soon as the situation permits and in any case always in full compliance with public health regulations;
c. external internships continue regularly but could undergo changes in relation to any restrictive measures that the same structures will adopt in relation to the pandemic.
d. a working group was organized, made up of the holders of the integrated courses, for the implementation of an innovative remote training method which aims to guarantee high levels of learning (video tutorials, clinical documentaries from the CBM University Hospital, etc. ).
8. The graduation sessions will also be carried out in presence, making the most of the University spaces to ensure maximum compliance with the safety measures; each graduating student can bring a maximum of 2 guests.
9. Simulation activity:
to. as early as next week a large simulation classroom will be fully equipped and active on the Trapezio terrace; the Departmental Faculties are organizing an intensive program in order to better integrate the lessons and provide a valid tool temporarily replacing the internships;
b. A new simulation classroom at the Prabb has already been active since this week, used in particular by students of the Departmental Faculty of Science and Technology for Man and the Environment.
10. Enhancement of remote activities with innovative ways:
to. a series of distance learning initiatives are being finalized with innovative tools purchased by the University to enhance the level of learning of you students.
11. All extra-curricular activities will continue remotely.
12. A co-innovation center will be inaugurated in November 2020 UCBM and Cisco, already built on the ground floor of the Prabb and equipped with latest generation digital technologies; in this space international connections will be possible as well as activities focused on the thematic verticals «Digital Health», «Reinventing Education» and «Digital Circular Economy», supporting training and co-planning activities within UCBM which will cover all degree courses transversally.
13. Academic services: during the next week the calendars of activities of the academic offices that are being reorganized will be published on e-learning in order to give you the best service both remotely and in person by appointment. With regard to the Library, it will be used by reservation and with a limited number of concurrent accesses in order to guarantee maximum compliance with the safety standards.
We are in a very particular historical moment, the worst in recent decades. We want to guarantee you students the best possible level of service compatibly with the primary objective to date which concerns the health of you, your families and all the members of the Community of the Campus Bio-Medico of Rome.
We trust in your sense of responsibility in rigorously following the rules of conduct and safety standards of our University in order to continue this academic year, guaranteeing you the best level of learning in a context of maximum safety.
Sincerely.
