Demonstrations of AI applied to medicine, with advanced robots for clinical support and hospital logistics, as well as moments of discussion on the challenges, including ethical ones, that the development of new technologies poses in various sectors. EmTech Italy 2025 confirmed Italy's strategic role in the innovation landscape, paving the way for the next Italian edition of the event.
Closes with 1300 attendees EmTech Italy 2025 Human & Tech, the first Italian edition of the international event dedicated to emerging technologies which debuted atUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 March 2025.
Organized by MIT Technology Review Italy and by 'Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma with the aim of building together the new ethical architecture of artificial intelligence, the event was hosted at the Cu.Bo Auditorium UCBM 37 panels and keynote speeches and 78 experts international, academic and institutional leaders such as Renato Brunetta, President of National Council of Economy and Labor, Valentine Valentini, Deputy Minister of Businesses and Made in Italy, Alec ross, author of The Industries of the Future and former senior innovation advisor to the US State Department, Leandro Pecchia, Professor of Biomedical Engineering UCBM, Thomas Poggio, McDermott Professor in MIT's Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences e BrianAnthony, Associate Director, MIT.nano.
With great attention to the ethical and legal challenges that its development entails, artificial intelligence has been elected as the engine of innovation capable of solving some of the biggest global problems also in Italy. From medicine of the future to the robotics, from neuroscience to smart hospitals, From 'energy to the space, this technology is transforming cities and the healthcare sector, opening new frontiers for research and care.
"The participation obtained in this first edition of EmTech Italy is of great satisfaction. We shared two days full of innovative ideas with high impact that projected us into the heart of the digital revolution and, thanks to the alliance with MIT Technology Review, we made our University an aggregator of entrepreneurs, scientists, innovators and professionals, united by the same goal: to develop technologies and innovations at the service of the person. Thanks to EmTech Italy theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma grows in its international posture and in its role as a promoter of a new way of training and accompanying good ideas on the path of innovation. Starting tomorrow, we will resume the team's work to win the challenge that is not between Human and Technology but between Human who governs technology and Human who does not govern it." - Ofchiara Andrea Rossi, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager UCBM.
"EmTech Italy 2025 marks a historic milestone. In two intense days, we explored cutting-edge solutions, sparked debate on the challenges of the future and created connections that will shape the digital tomorrow. The response from the global community was overwhelming, confirming that Italy has a key role in technological innovation. A huge thank you goes to our partners, speakers and theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, who believed in this project from the beginning, making it possible. This success gives us a responsibility chiara: look to the future and launch projects of ever greater impact to enhance Italian excellence, transform ideas into concrete projects and generate global impact. The journey has just begun." - comments Thomas Canonici, publisher of MIT Technology Review Italy.
With his intervention, Alec ross outlined the future of AI, highlighting how this technology is redefining the way we work, communicate and innovate. He explained that, after the era of perceptual AI and generative AI, the time will come forAutonomous AI, capable of performing complex actions such as organizing a schedule or optimizing a system andAI physics, which finds application in drones, robots and industrial automation. "The future of Artificial Intelligence is not just in large language models, but in concrete applications that transform the real world", said Ross, underlining the strategic role that Italy can play thanks to its excellence in manufacturing and precision industry.
The event also hosted some moments of practical demonstration of innovations applied to the hospital environment: Prof. Leandro Pecchia and the teacher Loredana Zollo, Dell 'Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, have presented solutions of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Used in Clinical Fields.
The debate then moved on to the corporate venture building, a model of collaboration between large companies and innovators, which is contributing to the birth of a new, more dynamic ecosystem capable of accelerating innovation processes. The new face of emerging technologies has been illustrated by Rhiannon Williams, Editor at MIT Technology Review, through the Annual report compiled by the Boston editorial team on the 10 emerging technologies that could revolutionize the world in the future.
