Rome, June 18 2026 – Women today represent the 61% of the students of theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, with 1.982 female students out of 3.250 enrolled, I'm the 60,7% of graduates, constitute the 74,2% of students participating in international mobility programs, represent the 57% of the members of the Board of Directors and achievement 50% of the Rectorate. In the last five years the number of female teachers has also grown by 51 %, going from 39 to 59.
These are some of the most significant data contained in the Gender Budget 2025 and in the new Gender Equality Plan 2026-2028 of the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, which photograph a University where the female presence continues to strengthen throughout the university path: from training to research, from academic careers to governance roles.
Particularly significant is the data relating to STEM disciplines. In a national and European context that continues to record a strong gender imbalance in technical-scientific paths, in courses Engineering of theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma the ratio between men and women is substantially balanced, a condition still rare in the Italian university landscape and consistent with the University's commitment to increasingly broader participation of young women in innovation and technology professions.
The growing female presence is also reflected in the quality of the university's educational programs. Women represent over 60% of the university's graduates and, across all program types, generally have higher completion rates than men. This is accompanied by a strong propensity for internationalization: nearly three out of four students participating in outgoing international mobility programs are women.
The evolution is even more evident when looking at academic careers. Between 2020 and 2025, the number of female teachers went from 39 to 59 units, with an increase of 51 %, while the female presence in scientific and teaching leadership roles is progressively growing.
At the same time, women's participation in selection processes and decision-making bodies is increasing. The female presence on competition committees has increased since 23% in 2020 to 41% in 2025, while today women represent the 39% of positions in the University's governing bodies. A presence that reaches the 57% on the Board of Directors and achievement 50% in the Rectorate and among the Rector's Delegates, confirming a path of progressive rebalancing in university governance.
The technical-administrative staff also shows a significant female participation: women today represent the 58% of the total, contributing significantly to the functioning and development of the university organization.
Alongside the growth in female representation, the Gender Report highlights the consolidation of welfare and work-life balance policies. Throughout 2025, in line with previous years, the University guaranteed the service of Polo 0–6 "Nursery and Kindergarten” for the benefit of the community UCBM, ensuring concrete support for the balance of personal, family, and work life for those who study and work at the University. Over the course of the year, the service was used by 26 families, for a total of 30 children, confirming the Center's role as a stable university welfare infrastructure. An additional financial benefit for siblings attending the Center was also maintained, to further support families. To complement the initiatives supporting parenting, the Summer Center UCBM, created in collaboration with Scienza Divertimento, spread over three weeks in June, with extended hours from 8.00 to 18.00
On this basis the new one is developed Gender Equality Plan 2026-2028, which identifies five strategic guidelines: work-life balance, participation in decision-making processes, academic career development, gender mainstreaming in education and research, and prevention of all forms of discrimination and violence.
Among the main actions planned are:Women's Mentoring and Leadership Programs, new initiatives to support female students in STEM and digital careers, strengthening international opportunities for young female researchers, measures dedicated to maternity and parenthood, and tools for monitoring career progression.
