The new is underway Single-cycle Master's Degree Course in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics dell 'Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma. With an average age of over 50 and around 10.000 professionals leaving in the next 10 years, the sector is preparing for a major generational change. Today at UCBM il symposium "What skills and professionalism today and tomorrow?", an all-round discussion articulated in a round table attended by representatives of Omceo, Andi e Aio together with university professors from the most important universities and a panel of vertical interventions that focused attention on the state of the profession in the sectors of implant-prosthetics, orthodontics, odontostomatological surgery and, obviously, Italian academic training in Europe.   

"The renewal of Italian dentistry will also depend on the ability to include graduates arriving from Italian universities into the professional circuit. Young Italian dentists can give a strong boost to the profession thanks to a natural predisposition to new technologies and a vision based on hybridization of knowledge, soft skills, communication of one's skills". It is a reflection on the future of dentistry and at the same time a message of hope that emerged today and summarized by the words of head of Cabinet of the MUR, Marcella Panucci, which with the most established professionals in the sector, category representatives, university professors, members of institutions, the world of education and healthcare, discussed the present and future of the dental profession and the strategic role played by university education.

According to the National Association of Italian Dentists (Andi) in fact today in Italy l'average age of dentists exceeds 50 years and it is estimated that around 10.000 professionals will reach retirement in the next 10 years (source Centro Studi Andi): a generational change of young dentists trained by Italian dentistry faculties is therefore expected. 

"Our task as Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma - said the President UCBM Carlo Tosti - is to offer a university that is in step with the times. In the case of dentistry, we have structured a new Master's Degree Course, starting in autumn, which combines the cutting edge in the use of technologies and artificial intelligence, also through the laboratories of the new Simulation Center, with a solid preparation on aspects of values, ethics and communication with the patient, from a one health perspective".

Among the numerous topics that emerged from the comparison: generational change and achievement risk of lack of professionals, The national demographic issue el 'graduates' access to the profession, the comparison between the costs and the democratization of care, The modernity and quality of dental practices in perspective, the introduction anduse of new technologies in care, Italy and the internationalization of dentistry.  

The new Master's Degree Course in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics UCBM is based in Rome where there are 19% of Italian dentistry students, numbers growing by 24% from 2020 to today. Students who ask for training capable of quickly projecting them into the world of work and, according to the latest Eures report, almost 50% of dentistry graduates feel the need to complete their path with further professional experiences. The self-evaluation on the courses stands between 8 and 8,5 for diagnosis, theoretical-scientific preparation and specialist preparation, while it comes close to a score of 7 for innovative techniques and organizational and management skills. In structuring the Master's Degree Course, the University has taken strong account of the role of technologies, of a strong practical preparation and a adequate management training to a figure called to manage real entrepreneurial activities.
