He visited the research laboratories and gave an exciting lecture

10 January 2019 - The conference roomUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma packed and the silence of the students intent on listening to the story of a lifetime of research: this is the image that will remain of the meeting with Robert Langer who on Wednesday 9 January, during his Italian tour, wanted to know theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma.

A reality particularly appreciated by the award-winning US professor and one of the most cited in the world in scientific publications. A University, ours, in harmony with its multidisciplinary experience ranging from chemistry to engineering, from the use of materials for the development of cutting-edge biomedical solutions to the methods of administering drugs, up to the support of innovative start-ups with the famous Langer Lab of which he is director.

Greeted upon arrival by the teacher Simonetta Filippi, vice-rector of Education, and by professor Eugenio Guglielmelli, vice-rector for research, Langer first visited the University's research laboratories and then began a fascinating lesson-story on his life journey and over forty years of scientific research.

Professor Robert Langer is now one of 13 Institute Professors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Born in 1948 and graduated in chemical engineering in 1974, he has received over 220 important awards over the years and is one of four living scientists in the world to have been awarded the United States of America Medal for Innovation and Technology.

Head of the "Langer Lab", a laboratory-incubator that has made over 40 companies grow, Professor Langer has to date developed over 1.000 patents, used by over 350 companies of various kinds in the biotech, pharmaceutical and chemical sectors.

Polymers, nanomaterials, drug combinations and numerous applications for improving health and treating diseases were some of the topics addressed by Langer in a lecture that kept over 180 students glued to their seats together with numerous doctors, professors and researchers from the university, in the presence of the president Felice Barela and the vice president Davide lotteries.
