During the Covid emergency, the prestigious Joint Commission International examined the health, teaching and research facilities of UCBM, evaluating the compliance with international standards of approximately 1.300 different measurable elements.

Rome, August 27 2020 – For the third consecutive time, the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital obtains the renewal of the accreditation of the prestigious institution Joint Commission International (JCI). A gold seal which, after the awards of 2014 and 2017, impartially and rigorously certifies the quality and attention that the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital puts in place every day to guarantee patients and operators the highest levels of quality and safety in healthcare.

After winning the first recognition in September 2014, the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital received the second gold seal in 2017. The third came at a very challenging historical moment for world health.

“This survey took place in a certainly complex context, just four weeks after the closure of the Campus Covid Center. The inspectors praised our quality and safety policy in favor of patients, always lived and even more confirmed in this period of epidemiological emergency "says Paul Charm mania, General Director of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital.

"The JCI experts have been particularly rigorous and punctual using an unprecedented method such as that of the virtual survey. They have paid greater attention to the point of view of the patients by interviewing some of them surprisingly to verify the perception of quality and safety in everyday life in Policlinico. The session concerning the standards on clinical research was also very thorough" Rossana underlines Alloni, clinical director of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital.

"As part of the quality and safety indicators, the work carried out for the control of healthcare-associated infections was greatly appreciated through a policy of constant monitoring of germ alerts, periodic risk assessment, continuous strengthening of prevention practices of the transmission of infections and training on the subject, aimed at operators and patients. This ongoing commitment has been enriched by the recent creation of a campaign for hand hygiene and the fight against antibiotic resistance through the composition of an Antimicrobial Stewardship team" dichiara Lorenzo Sommolla, Medical Director of the Campus Bio-medico University Hospital.

Also this year the recognition was obtained not only for the healthcare activity, but also for the teaching and research carried out in the Polyclinic. For this reason, the 'seal' was renewed at the University Hospital as an Academic Medical Center Hospital.

Joint Commission International is an international organization founded in 1951 in the United States to improve the quality of health care. Today it is the largest international health accreditation body, with branches on every continent, where it inspects nearly 20 health organizations and services.

JCI accreditation is voluntary and is constantly updated. In fact, even after passing the checks, the health facilities remain under close observation: the JCI standards are the result of the consensus of the international scientific community, they are elaborated and updated by a real task force of the organization, to be finally approved by an international board.

The renewal of the accreditation of Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital in 2020 refers to the sixth edition of the JCI standards manual. The application of the standards is made verifiable by over 1300 measurable elements.

Patient-centered standards address safety, access to health care and continuity of care, patient and family rights and education, patient assessment and care, anesthetic and surgical care, the management and use of drugs, especially high-risk ones.

As regards, however, the organization and management of the facility, the standards concern the improvement of quality and patient safety, the prevention and control of infections, the organization, understood as internal governance, leadership and management, the infrastructure management and security, staff qualification and training, and communication and information management.
