As of today, the renewal of the accreditation by the prestigious Joint Commission International, which in recent weeks has sifted through the health, teaching and research facilities of UCBM, evaluating the compliance with international standards of approximately 1.300 different measurable elements

Rome, 12 July 2017 - The Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital confirmation the 'star' of Joint Commission International (JCI), immediately obtaining the accreditation renewal to the prestigious institution, which internationally subjects the quality and safety levels of the best healthcare facilities to severe checks. A recognition attributed only to organizations that agree to submit their clinical, teaching and research activities to the meticulous inspections of JCI controllers, to verify their adherence to international standards.

After conquering the first recognition in September 2014, the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital thus succeeds in the far more demanding undertaking of seeing confirmed the results that had guaranteed the original accreditation. This time, for the employees and structures in via Alvaro del Portillo, the survey of the evaluators from Chicago required adherence to about 1.300 measurable items, which have been carefully scrutinized and examined by the surveyors. "They went through every corner of the University Hospital”, underlined the General Manager of the health facility, Maria de la Viescaat the end of the evaluation period.

The news of the positive outcome therefore certifies, for the second time, in an impartial and rigorous way, the quality and attention that the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital has put in place and continues to guarantee to patients and to those who work within its facilities on a daily basis.

The recognition was obtained not only for the healthcare activity, but also for the teaching and research carried out in the Polyclinic. For this reason, the 'seal' was renewed at the University Hospital as a Academic Medical Center Hospital. In the capital and in Lazio it has been achieved so far – as well as since UCBM – only from the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital.

"It fills me with pride – is the comment of the Director General of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital, Maria de la Viesca - see the great teamwork that involved every service of the Polyclinic without distinction. This is concrete for me demonstration of a style of work that we carry out every day at the service of our patients”. A satisfaction corroborated by the facts, if in the debriefing final, before leaving for the United States of America, the evaluators had shown how the judgment 'partially compliant' had arrived only for 31 elements, thus obtaining a qualification of 9,77 out of 10. An outcome that he had anticipated to the surveyors which would have brought to the headquarters of the Commission, in the USA, the recommendation for the immediate renewal of the accreditation.

A few weeks ago, the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital had obtained comforting data also on the profile of the indicators of the Regional Plan for the Evaluation of Outcomes (P.Re.Val.E.), made public by the Lazio Region to certify the quality of health care. In that case, a trend of general improvement in outcomes compared to the previous year was indicated for the University Hospital, con assessments better than the regional average in all three macro-areas of assessment and 'top' levels both for the interventions of coronary artery bypass graft that for those of heart valve replacement.

"I consider confirmation of JCI accreditation to be of great importance – underlines the President of UCBM, Felice Barela - which comes to crown the commitment to quality and safety of those who work in UCBM and have spent to reach this beautiful goal and encourages us to continue on this which is one precise strategic line of our institution".

JCI accreditation is voluntary and is constantly updated. In fact, even after passing the checks, the health facilities remain under close observation: the JCI standards are the result of the consensus of the international scientific community, are processed and updated by a real one Task Force of the organization, to be finally approved by a Board international.

They are grouped into 14 macro-functions: international goals for patient safety; access to care and continuity of care; rights of the patient and family members; patient assessment; patient care; anesthetic and surgical assistance; medication management and use; patient and family education; improvement of quality and patient safety; infection prevention and control; governance, leadership and management; infrastructure management and security; staff qualifications and training; communication and information management.

An check list with a high patient protection index, which since 2014 has certified the quality of the service offered by the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital and for which patients will have greater security in assistance.
