Recipients and access requirements
The initiative is aimed at nurses in possession of a five-year high school diploma and a University Diploma or other qualification recognized as equivalent* (Law 8 January 2002, n. 1).
*Professional Nurse Diploma, University Diploma in Nursing, University Diploma for Nursing, Graduate Diploma in Nursing.
The university qualification must be possessed by the candidate admitted to attend the Master within and no later than 90 days from the start of the same. Candidates admitted to the Master's who, on the date of the selections, do not possess said qualification, will be eligible as "sub-conditional participants in attendance".
Educational objectives
The objective of the Master is the specialized training of personnel to be assigned to the profession of operating room instrumentalist for general and specialist surgery through the acquisition of specific skills for the planning and care management of the peri-operative paths of interventions with surgeries with a high care impact , of complex care problems, of endoscopic and instrumentalist activities in the various surgical/technological contexts.
At the end of the course students will be able to:
- Ensure high levels of quality and safety in surgical patient care, during the peri-operative, intra-operative and post-operative phases;
- Ensure high levels of quality and safety in surgical instrumentation in various specialist areas;
- Guarantee high levels of quality and safety in the maintenance and management of medical devices in use in the operating block.
Final profile
The professional specialist trained by the Master will be able to work within single-specialist and multi-specialist Operating Blocks providing nursing and technical assistance in the surgical field. The same will be able to carry out its activity inside the recovery rooms and in the sterilization centres.
Didactic structure and thematic areas
The course lasts 18 months, and guarantees the acquisition of 60 credits (equal to 1500 hours). Its modular and part-time formula makes it compatible and contextual with professional commitments and responsibilities.
The 60 credits are divided as follows:
- 34 credits in teaching and study activities;
- 16 CFU in internship activities;
- 10 credits in the elaboration of the master's thesis.
The training course is divided into 9 thematic modules:
FIRST: The operating block
SECOND: Advanced nursing skills in the operating room
THIRD: Surgical instruments
FOURTH: Specialist surgeries 1
FIFTH: Specialist surgeries 2
SIXTH: Orthopedic surgery
SEVENTH: Gynecology and Obstetrics
EIGHTH: Specialist surgeries 3
NONO: Professionalizing activity
The methodology used is consistent with the contents of the disciplines taught and with the educational objectives defined during the planning stage. In particular, there is a tendency to mainly use active teaching methods in order to influence not only knowledge, but also technical skills and attitudes.
Some content relating to the thematic modules will be provided through the University's distance learning platform, in live streaming and through recordings.
Among the methods that will be used:
- frontal teaching;
- exercises in the presence of teachers;
- online teaching;
- role-playing;
- educational workshops/traineeship;
- final project work.
Internship
The Master includes an internship period at the Operating Block of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital, for a total of hours corresponding to 16 credits (or 150 hours).
In the Operating Block, trainees will be supported by nurses who will play the role of clinical tutors.
Scholarships covering
Discounted rates are provided for graduates from theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma and in favor of the staff of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital.
The amount of each installment is, in this case, €1.000 each. instead of €1.300 each.
Title awarded
Participants who complete the Master's and are in compliance with the administrative obligations will be awarded the title of I level University Master's in "Nursing assistance and instrumentation in the operating room". The recognition of the training credit is linked both to regular attendance (compulsory for a total of hours of no less than 80% of the lessons in presence and live streaming and to 100% of the internship activities), and to passing the ongoing and final tests .
Participation in a University Master provides for the exemption from CME credits in compliance with the Determination of the CNFC of 17 July 2013 on the subject of "Exemptions, Exemptions, Individual Tutoring, Training Abroad, Self-learning, Registration Methods and Certification".
