Registrations open until December 6th

October 24, 2019 - It is an established fact that precision oncology is able to improve survival rates in the metastatic phase of the disease up to doubling them. This happens thanks to individualized treatments of the specific biological and genetic alterations of the tumor, giving rise to real "patient-friendly" therapies. This new approach requires an integration of skills that come from various professional figures involved (including oncologist, pathologist, molecular biologist, geneticist and pharmacologist) who, thanks to their experience, allow a correct interpretation of the genetic and molecular data and the choice of the appropriate therapeutic strategy.

For this reason theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma offers the Specialization Course in “Precision medicine in the treatment of cancer” sponsored by SIAPEC – IAP (Italian Society of Pathological Anatomy and Diagnostic Cytology) and by AIOM (Italian Association of Medical Oncology), to which it is possible to register until next 6 December.

The program consists of 9 modules (all ECM accredited), of which 7 in residential and FAD mode (with lessons atUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma) and 2 on the FAD platform, at the end of which the participants will develop and discuss their end-of-course project. Below is the list of topics covered with an indication of the period in which they took place:

  • "Luminal" breast cancer: tissue markers and therapeutic strategies (FAD module)
  • Non-luminal breast cancer: tissue markers and therapeutic strategies (FAD module)
  • December 2019 - Melanoma: tissue markers and precision oncology (residential module and FAD)
  • January 2020 - Lung cancer: driver mutations and therapy (residential module and FAD)
  • February 2020 - Lung cancer: immunotherapy and tissue markers (residential module and FAD)
  • March 2020 - UPPER GI (esophagus, stomach, pancreas): tissue markers and precision oncology (residential module and FAD)
  • April 2020 - Colon: tissue markers and precision oncology (residential module and FAD)
  • May 2020 - Sarcomas: tissue markers and precision oncology (residential module and FAD)
  • June 2020 - Orphan Disease: tissue markers and precision oncology (residential module and FAD)

Among the most interesting aspects of the course is the presence of an international faculty which will allow participants to deepen the theoretical and practical foundations for the identification, characterization and diagnosis of pathologies as well as the study of advanced molecular diagnostic techniques. The course also wants to convey a working model among the professionals involved in the process, therefore it is mainly aimed at doctors, biologists and biomedical laboratory technicians.

Candidates will be able to compete for the assignment of 15 scholarships to fully cover the tuition fee.
