Students and speakers from around the world

June 25, 2021 - The Seasonal School on Rehabilitation and assistive technologies based on soft robotics was held in June, organized by UCBM in collaboration with Tohoku University, University of Pennsylvania, Polytechnic of Bari and sponsored by IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and from the project European SOMA.

Sixty students from 16 countries, online workshops with international speakers, group work and a final virtual competition are the ingredients of the School which aimed to provide young researchers with interdisciplinary knowledge on design and simulation of soft robotic systems to be used in a clinical-rehabilitative setting or as a support for daily activities. Twelve international teams faced each other in the final challenge.

The challenge was won by a tendon exoskeleton for the rehabilitation of scoliosis; a soft robot for neck stabilization and a soft robotic arm for assisting people with disabilities. Today soft robotics plays a fundamental role in rehabilitation, helping to improve the quality of life of patients.
The appointment with the Seasonal School is for next year.
