Rome, 10 April 2020 - The 300 inmates of the Lanciano prison in Abruzzo have made a donation for the Covid Center of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital in Rome. The funds raised by them will help support the functioning of the treatment center specialized in the treatment of patients suffering from Covid-19 which, together with many hospitals throughout Italy, is saving the lives of the people most seriously affected by the new coronavirus.
The prisoners, partly sentenced to life imprisonment, had asked their director in recent days Lucia Advantaged the possibility of showing one's proximity to the Bio-Medical Campus. Already in the past the inmates of Lanciano had collaborated with theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, through reintegration projects. The donation to support the Covid Center arrived today.
The Rector ofUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, Raffaele Calabrò he thus expressed his gratitude and closeness to the inmates of Lanciano: “Yours is a gesture of profound humanity that makes you an example for everyone in this period of uncertainty in which it is not rhetorical to forcefully remind us of the authentic values of unity and humanity. I am grateful to you on behalf of the University that guido and I represent”.
In the letter signed by the director of the Campus Covid Center Felice Eugenio Agrò and by Rossella Perricone, president of the Association of Friends of the Campus Bio-Medico University, the University thanks Dr. Avantaggiato and all the inmates for their generous gesture in such a challenging and difficult moment, and further expresses its closeness and that of the entire University towards those who are forced to live this time in prison.
