Maurizio Martina visited the laboratories of the Faculty of Science and Technology for Man and the Environment

June 25, 2021 - "I believe that a partnership between our experiences that from Rome shows what Italy can offer to the world is a way forward". This was said by FAO Deputy Director General Maurizio Martina during his visit toUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma and at the University Hospital.
During the morning after the meeting with the rector Raffaele Calabrò and university leaders, Maurizio Martina visited the research laboratories, meeting teachers, students and researchers from the faculty of Science and Technology for Man and the Environment engaged in the development of innovative solutions in the food sector, for the cultivation of plants, for the health and well-being of the person in a "one-health" perspective.
"I have seen the great strength of this experience - underlined Martina at the end of the visit to the university facilities - we must collaborate because the pandemic has shown us that a great challenge is being played out around food issues for the future of health and the earth. It is a challenge that requires us to train new professionals who can address the food question in new terms. I am thinking of the themes of innovation at the service of correct information".
"Our university, with its courses in food science and human nutrition and food science and technology and supply chain management, can put a training center at the service of this collaboration in areas that represent a major challenge for sustainability and food safety of tomorrow – explained the professor Laura De Gara, Dean of the Departmental Faculty of Sciences and Technologies for Man and the Environment ofUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma - Especially in this historical period of overcoming the Pandemic, the intellectual energies, skills, creativity and enthusiasm of our students and researchers are fundamental. Together with FAO, we want to share this heritage of ecological skills and sensitivity in favor of projects that aim decisively at human development and the sustainability of agriculture in the future".
After the visit to the laboratories, the FAO Deputy Director also visited the University Hospital, accompanied by the Director General, Paolo Sormani, who illustrated the Health and Diplomacy program, a program dedicated to diplomats and foreign patients.
