Signed the agreement to train specialists in the sector
June 17, 2021 - To train new extra virgin olive oil specialists, in the name of quality and the extraordinary nutraceutical properties of the symbolic product of Made in Italy and the Mediterranean Diet. This is the objective of the framework agreement signed this morning between theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma andUnaprol, at the University.
The Rector UCBM, Raffaele Calabrò, and the General Manager of Unaprol, Nicholas DiNoia, have signed a multi-year agreement which provides for various joint initiatives aimed at enhancing the olive-growing chain, identifying new strategies and technological innovation in the sector.
Among the foreseen activities, the development and coordination of research programs, the organization of conferences, seminars and training activities and the promotion of internships in companies associated with Unaprol.
The goal of the initiative is to foster contacts and exchanges between the academic world and national olive production, give impetus to a professional and multidisciplinary approach to oil and table olives, promote knowledge and economic and social growth of the entire supply chain, respecting man and the environment.
"The framework agreement between Ucbm and Unaprol represents an important moment to strengthen the culture of extra virgin olive oil within our country with the commitment of our University - Said Raffaele Calabrò -. Italy is one of the main European producers of olive oil and has productions of the highest quality that are not always known. We want to give our contribution to make the great qualities of extra virgin olive oil better known, to get it out of market niches, to make it recognized as a food and not as a condiment, inextricably linked to the history, culture and Italian territory, as it is was made for wine".
"The partnership with Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma allows us to continue the training path on which Unaprol is focusing decisively through agreements with schools and institutions – explains the President of Unaprol, David Granieri -. We need to train new specialists in Italian extra virgin olive oil and table olives, outside the narrow circle of traditional experts, if we want to raise the bar of consumption and improve the perception of the quality of our product and of a heritage made up of 540 varieties of olive trees and as many as 52 PDO or PGI certified extra virgin olive oils and table olives”.
“In Italy, 9 out of 10 families consume extra virgin olive oil because they consider it essential for health: our cultural challenge, through training implemented in synergy with our partners such as Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, with Coldiretti and our Evoo School Foundation, is to lead consumers to consciously choose a high quality oil, recognizing all the typical qualities of this extraordinary product", he concluded Granieri.
