The Rector Raffaele Calabrò passes the baton to Eugenio Guglielmelli

The steps taken together with the prof were retraced with emotion. Raffaele Calabrò since the dawn ofUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma and in particular in the last five years in the role of Rector. On the day of San Raffaele gratitude, esteem and affection in the words of those who worked alongside him.

"From the outset, Raffaele imagined the University as an open place where students could receive not only a 'simple' transmission of notions, but the most integral and complete training possible". These are the words of the President UCBM Carlo Tosti which highlighted Calabrò's fundamental contribution to the development of the Third Mission, the cultural dimension and the relationship with the students' families.

“The Campus owes you a lot”. That's how he started out Giuseppe Garofano, President of the Campus Bio-Medico Association. "You followed the life of this nascent apostolic work until you became its Rector, perfectly embodying its spirit and operational practice. You made us grow and for that we are grateful. You paved the way for a worthy successor with foresight, allowing for an exemplary passing of the baton in terms of content, style and generosity.”

A heartfelt thanks also comes fromChief Executive Officer and General Manager Andrea Rossi. “Enthusiasm, ability to dream, resourcefulness, family atmosphere, self-control, confidence, charisma. He was a passionate teacher, an enlightened Rector and an exceptional coach for me. All these things, together with his example, represent the treasure he leaves me and which I will keep in my coffer."

To express words of gratitude and to recall memories too Alessandro Pernigo, Felice Barela (who sent his greeting), Gino Altomare, Vincenzo Di Lazzaro, Augusto Ferrini, Donatella Marsiglia, Paolo Sormani, Paolo Arullani, Stefano Anzilotti and his wife Giovanna.

"Memories go back to 1989, over 30 years ago – said Prof. Calabro – when Gino Altomare involved me in this adventure. We had no resources but strong enthusiasm and the ambition to follow up on Don Àlvaro's dream: to found a healthcare facility with university characteristics in which to train young people, not only in their professionalism but above all by helping them to grow as people. Educate them to truth, justice, freedom.” He remembers them as extremely formative years whose teachings accompanied him in every experience, from that of a doctor to that of a teacher up to his political activity and public administrator.
“When I returned as Rector, I found an unimaginable reality. What many years ago was just a dream had become concrete and far beyond what I could have dreamed of 25 years earlier. For me it was like reaping the fruits of a work accomplished by so many of you over the years. And it is to you that I thank you." During his tenure, as many have recalled, prof. Calabrò has given a considerable boost to the growth of the University: from the development of the Third Mission, to the numerous cultural initiatives, to the birth of the Departmental Faculty of Science and Technology for Man and the Environment, up to the launch of three new degree in English, always with the idea of putting the person at the center of training and research activities.

The moment of passing the baton to his successor, Prof., was warm. Eugenio Guglielmelli, who in a few days will officially become the new Rector of the University.

The words of the prof. Eugenio Guglielmelli: “A sincere thanks to the current Rector for the passage of the baton through the delivery of the touch, of great symbolic value, and above all of the Charter of Purposes which expresses all the values and identity of the Campus System. The Campus thrives on these teachings and we try to update them every day in academic training, in the promotion of research and innovation, in the service to students and families that Raffaele has strongly promoted. My commitment will be to continue the line drawn over these five years and to be faithful to the roots of our institution, as each of us is called to do in our daily professional experience."
