Rome, 17 November 2022 - TheUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma with the support of Intesa Sanpaolo brings back to Italy one of the most influential biomedical engineers in the world: Prof. Leandro Pecchia, President of the European Society of Biomedical Engineering (EAMBES), Secretary General of the world association (IFMBE), WHO consultant for technologies for Covid-19 and member of the CTS of the Ministry of Health for medical devices. After a long experience in the United Kingdom at the universities of Sheffield, Nottingham and Warwick, Leandro Pecchia will be a lecturer in Electronic and Computer Bioengineering at the Faculty of Engineering of theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma and will direct the new research unit in “Intelligent Health Technology”, thanks to the collaboration between the Biomedical University Foundation and Intesa Sanpaolo.
On the occasion of the ceremony for the new role, prof. Leandro Pecchia held a keynote speech today at theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma on how biomedical engineering has been working for years with the United Nations to improve access to care even in low-income countries and how this experience was crucial during the pandemic that created a scenario of limited resources in Europe for the first time since the Second World War.
During the meeting entitled “Biomedical engineering for global health and sustainable development” also spoke Carlo Tosti, President UCBM, Dr. Federica Marchini, Councilor of the Biomedical University Foundation, Elisa Zscopio Marsala, Head of Social Enhancements and Relations with Intesa Sanpaolo Universities, Eugenio Guglielmelli, Rector UCBM, Andrea Rossi, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager UCBM and Claudia Peverini, Program Director Department of Engineering University of Cambridge.
The round table took place immediately after the meeting “Multidisciplinary training, research and innovation for sustainable development” with interventions by Alessandra Lanzara, Charles Kittel Chair Professor of Physics, Director Center for Sustainable Materials and Innovation, UC Berkeley; Barbara Mazzolai, Associate Director for Robotics of the Italian Institute of Technology, Marcella Trombetta, Dean of the Departmental Faculty of Sciences and Technologies for Man and the Environment UCBM, Loredana Zollo, Dean of the Departmental Faculty of Engineering UCBM, Marco Baccanti, General Director of the Enea Tech and Biomedical Foundation and Paolo Netti, President of the National Bioengineering Group.
