Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 October

Saturday 27 September 2014, a date that is about to enter the history of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome. On that date, in fact, its inspirer, Msgr. Alvaro del Portillo will be beatified. What better occasion to celebrate and remember it? For this, Wednesday 1 October, L 'UCBM it will be the scene of a great event, open to all, which will be attended by a representation of guests who have come to Rome from all over the world to celebrate the beatification.

The party will open at 18 with the inauguration of a commemorative bust of Don Alvaro, located in the Trapezio hall. The decision to exhibit this work, created by the sculptor Romano Cosci, was suggested by some students, so that it can make the most authentic and profound inspiration of the Bio-Medico Campus present every day.

After this solemn start, the evening will continue giving space to the students, who will be the true soul of the party. The courtyard between the Trapezium and the PRABB will host a stage where, at 18.30 pm, the actors of the University's theater workshop will stage a show that will retrace some of the salient moments in Don Alvaro's life, with monologues, images and testimonies that will bring us closer to the new blessed. Everything will be accompanied by strictly live music.

A special guest will take on the role of the protagonist. In fact, he will lend him his voice and his heart Piero Cavaglia, guiding the spectators to discover his journey starting from Madrid, where he was born on March 11, 1914. We will learn about the adventures of his university life and his collaboration and friendship with St. Josemarìa Escrivà, which led him to Rome, where he arrived for the first time in 1943 to present the nature of Opus Dei and its apostolate to the Pope. Hence his travels to Africa, a land that he loved deeply and where he went, he said, "to learn".

This tribute, therefore, will not only be a moment of friendship, but also an opportunity to make Don Alvaro's story known to those who, while studying or working at the Campus Bio-Medico, can barely pronounce his name (Álvaro, not " Arvàro” as they say in Rome). Afterwards, a buffet dinner will be offered, after which the musical entertainment will continue and the party will get into full swing.

The festivities for this great event will end the following day, Thursday October 2, with the blessing of the Chapel dedicated to the Madonna, recently erected on the hill of the Bio-Medico Campus, which will take place immediately after the 13.00 pm Mass (celebrated in the Policlinico Chapel) in the presence of the academic authorities. The making of this little one hermitage it was already suggested by Don Alvaro in the early 90s to be a point of reference for the entire Campus Bio-Medico. In fact, he wanted the Madonna, also venerated in the Church as Sedes Sapientiae, to be a light on the path of all those who live university life in the University - both as students and professionals - and also to be a loving and comforting gaze aimed at the sick hospitalized at the Policlinico, over which he will watch over from the highest point of the hill.
