Prof. Giulio Iannello

Biography

Born in Rome on August 17, 1957.

Curriculum Vitae

Giulio Iannello degree in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan in 1981 and a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Naples Federico II in 1987. From 1987 to 1992 he was a Researcher at the Department of Information Engineering and Applied Mathematics of the University of Salerno. From 1992 to 2000 he was an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Systems of the University of Naples Federico II. From 2000 to 2004 he was an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Systems of the University of Naples Federico II. Since 2004 he has been a Full Professor at theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma where he is responsible for the Research Area of ​​Processing Systems and Bioinformatics.

He has participated and participates in numerous national and international research projects.

From 1995 to 1997 he was sub-project coordinator within the project of national interest "Design Methodologies and Tools for Distributed and Parallel Systems" and responsible for research units. From 1998 to 1999 he was sub-project coordinator within the Project of Relevant National Interest "Design Methodologies and Tools for High-Performance Systems for Distributed Applications" (MOSAICO) and responsible for research units. From 2001 to 2003 he was responsible for Workpackage 3 (Information Technologies for Distance Learning) within the Project "LABNET", funded by MIUR. From 2001 to 2006 he was responsible for workpackage 2 (Conceptual System Architecture) within the FIRB project "Middleware for advanced services on large-scale wired-wireless distributed systems (WEB-MINDS)" and responsible for research units. From 2001 to 2003 he participated in the Project of Relevant National Interest "Web Systems with High Quality of Service". From 2004 to 2006 he was local responsible for the Project of Relevant National Interest "Quality and Controllability of Communication Services on Heterogeneous Networks (QuaSAR)". From 2008 to 2010 he participated in the Project of Relevant National Interest "Aging and quality of life. Integrated intervention models for people with mental disabilities and behavioral deficits".

He participated in the projects NetQoS, OneLab, TACT and the networks of excellence E-Next and CONTENT, funded by the European Commission under the VI Framework Programme. In 2003 and 2005 he received two grants from Hewlett-Packard for projects concerning applications of mobile wireless devices.

He has been and is responsible for numerous technology transfer projects in the industrial sector and for Industrial Research and Technology Transfer projects.

He was a member of the Teaching Board of two PhDs at the University of Naples Federico II and Coordinator of the PhD in Science and Engineering for Man and the Environment at theUniversità Campus Bio-medico di Roma. He is currently Director of the Doctoral School of theUniversità Campus Bio-medico di Roma.

His current research interests include data, signal and image processing of biological and medical interest, multimedia data processing, design and analysis of parallel algorithms, performance evaluation of parallel and distributed systems. He has published over 160 papers on these and other topics in international and national journals and conference proceedings. He is a co-founder of the Italian Scientific Society of Biomedical Informatics (SIBIM). He is a member of the IEEE, the ACM and the Italian Association for Research in Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning (CVPL).
