Comparison between the two different quantitative HCV RNA assays COBAS AmpliPrep/COBAS TaqMan HCV and VERSANT HCV RNA Assay (kPCR) system in evaluating low viral load in HCV infection

Comparison between the two different quantitative HCV RNA assays COBAS AmpliPrep/COBAS TaqMan HCV and VERSANT HCV RNA Assay (kPCR) system in evaluating low viral load in HCV infection

Project objectives

To evaluate the different sensitivities of molecular methods for the detection of HCV RNA, especially in relation to HCV RNA titers below the sensitivity limits of the different assays. The aim of the study is to evaluate whether low viral loads (observed with some tests but not with others) can predict HCV RNA rebound (relapsers) during or after treatment in patients with chronic type C infection.
