Target
The project is the response of the Italian scientific community to the National Strategic Program on AI. FAIR addresses the challenge of defining the frontier research agenda for tomorrow's AI methodologies and techniques. The plan is to: i) advance frontier research in AI, both for fundamental and applied research, ii) reduce the fragmentation of AI research, iii) develop and adopt human-centered and trustworthy AI in the public and private sectors, iv) increase AI-driven innovation and AI technology development, v) develop AI-driven policies and services in the public sector, and vi) create, retain and attract AI talent. This is motivated by the fact that we need AI systems that are able to interact and collaborate with humans, to perceive and act within evolving contexts, to be aware of their own limits and able to adapt to new situations, to interact appropriately in complex social contexts, to be aware of their own perimeters of safety and trust, and to be attentive to the environmental and social impact that their implementation and execution may entail.
