The project

Evolution of an implantable system for controlling upper limb prostheses with noninvasive, wireless neural interfaces. The project aims to continue the scientific, technological, and clinical advances in upper limb prosthetic systems achieved through the now-concluded PPR2 project. Specifically, the aim of the experiment is to develop advanced stand-alone interfacing and control solutions to improve performance in activities of daily living. The ultimate goal is to optimize a prosthetic system developed in the PPR2 project with the introduction of highly miniaturized, stable, and biocompatible components, resulting in a long-lasting implant that would allow for the extensive use of these technologies in everyday settings. The prosthetic system would consist of: a fully implantable neural interface system equipped with wireless technology and a bidirectional embedded prosthetic control system that would allow for active grip force modulation based on tactile information elicited in the subject through neural stimulation.
