Smart Surgical platform for the Transpedicular delivery of Advanced Regenerative Therapies into the intervertebral DISC space (START-Disc)
Project objectives
The START-Disc Project aims to develop a new surgical platform for the administration of regenerative therapy in the intervertebral disc.
The specific objectives of START-Disc are:
- Develop a new intelligent surgical tool for the delivery of advanced regenerative therapies (ATMP – Advanced Therapy Medical Products) in the intervertebral disc through the transpedicular approach equipped with a monitoring system and minimally invasive characteristics in order to administer the therapy in a safe, simple and reproducible way.
- Select polymeric biomaterials for the closure of the transpedicular tunnel (vertebral plate and vertebral pedicle) to seal the disc space and prevent the leakage of ATMPs in order to maintain the achieved intradisc pressure.
- Select regenerative therapies for the treatment of intervertebral disc degeneration to be administered with the newly developed surgical platform.
