Research areas and methodologies

The main research areas of this unit are:

  • clinical care: in particular in palliative care, onco-hematology and other patients with non-communicable diseases, elderly people with chronic diseases
  • educational: core curriculum in palliative care, hidden curriculum, tutoring and carer behaviorsing of students, psycho-social and spiritual well-being of students,
  • organizational: in particular, healthcare complexity, nurses' workload, middle management leadership, patient experience, continuous staff training, quality management, digital innovation, ethics and bioethics in the healthcare sector.

Quantitative methodologies:

  • Randomized and controlled clinical trials;
  • Phase II clinical trials;
  • Epidemiological studies;
  • Observational and descriptive studies;
  • Development and psychometric validation of quantitative instruments;
  • Systematic reviews, meta-analysis, meta-synthesis, scoping review.

Qualitative methodology:

  • Phenomenological studies or descriptive qualitative studies (using focus groups or interviews)
  • Qualitative systematic reviews (metasynthesis)
