Horizon Europe is the 9th European Union Framework Program for Research and Innovation for the period 2021-2027 what happens to Horizon 2020. With a financial allocation of 95,5 billion it is the most ambitious European Research and Innovation program ever. Horizon Europe's main objectives are to maximize impact, deliver the EU's strategic priorities, such as recovery, green and digital transitions, and address global challenges, by providing researchers and innovators with the tools they need to realize their projects and of their own ideas.

The program is divided into three Pillars:

  • Excellent Science
  • Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness
  • Innovative Europe

To these is added the transversal program Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area (ERA).

Complementary to Horizon Europe are also the European Defense Fund for defense research funding and the program EURATOM for research and training activities in the nuclear sector.
