Structure of the Path

During the first three years of training, residents will rotate between the various operating units, acquiring transversal skills and a solid foundation in general surgery. The goal is to rotate between all seven operating units at the site, albeit for periods of varying length.

This phase also includes a six-month training period at a hospital in the School's partner training network, to broaden clinical experience in diverse and complementary settings, particularly with the opportunity to enhance surgical experience in minor and medium-sized surgeries. The training network is also being expanded to include geographically distant institutions, which represent an opportunity but where no resident will be forced to travel.

In the final two years, the trainee will be able to focus their training on the surgical area of greatest interest, deepening their specific skills and building relationships with a view to their professional future.

Additionally, students will be able to take advantage of up to 18 months of extracurricular activities, to be carried out in Italy or abroad, even by dividing the period between multiple locations, according to a personalized training plan approved by the School Management.

Clinical, Outpatient and Surgical Activities

From their first year, residents actively participate in departmental activities, patient management, and outpatient activities. They are also continuously involved in operating room activities, where, from the very first year, they have the opportunity to perform procedures as first operator, with a progressively increasing level of complexity over the years.

This approach allows for the early development of manual skills, decision-making ability, and a sense of responsibility, promoting balanced and continuous growth. Some units also perform robotic surgery using the Hugo RAS. Residents are directly involved in this area as well, sometimes assisting at the operating table.

Tutoring and Training Support

Each resident is assigned a mentor who supports them throughout their training and professional development, providing a constant point of reference for their clinical and personal growth. The School also includes resident representatives, who act as liaison and support between their colleagues and the School's management, encouraging the sharing of information, experiences, and joint initiatives.
