Continuum Mechanics is the study of matter at a length-scale at which theContinuum Mechanics is the study of matter at a length-scale at which theexistence of the atomic structure can be neglected, and matter can be treated ascontinuous rather than discrete. Research in our group is devoted to themathematical foundations of Continuum Mechanics and its applications to theBiomechanics of Soft Tissue. In particular, we are interested in modelling softtissue accounting for its structural elements, i.e., collagen fibres, cells, non-fibrousextracellular matrix and fluid. Most phenomena of structural rearrangement in abiological tissue can be described under the umbrella of growth and remodelling.Structural damage is what can initiate injury and disease. This presentation willbriefly describe the group's work in Biomechanics in the past 15 or so years.
