The Passion in words and music. An appointment of the "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" itinerary, designed for the Year of Mercy.

The Passion of Christ stimulated the creativity of the greatest composers, leading to the writing of authentic masterpieces such as the Passions of Matthew and Giovanni by JS Bach and the Stabat Mater by GB Pergolesi. On this Monday which begins Passion Week, we want to get closer to the Passion through the reading of the dramatic praise "The tears of the Madonna" by Jacopone da Todi, one of the most beautiful pages of early Italian literature, interspersed with the performance of some pieces taken from the works of Bach and Pergolesi, specifically transcribed for the chamber ensemble of theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma. He opens and closes the performance with the famous chorale O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden, which Bach included in the St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244). Here is the first verse:

“O head full of blood and wounds, full of pain and contempt! O head girded in mockery with a crown of thorns! O boss, already beautifully adorned with great honor and beauty, now instead I salute you reviled!"
