Human Centered Science

Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma promotes integrated teaching and research structures, pursuing the good of the person as the main aim of its activities. It offers the student an educational experience aimed at his cultural, professional and human growth, confering the acquisition of skills in a spirit of service. It promotes knowledge and the interdisciplinarity of sciences and research in all areas that contribute to the good of the whole person. The student's care of the patient's unity of physical and spiritual needs according to a conception of life open to transcendence. 

The University is run by one Statute, in accordance with the aims and inspiring principles expressed in the institution's Charter of Purposes and Code of Ethics. On 23 July 2015, the Executive Committee also approved the University Teaching Regulations - General sectionand on 5 November of the same year the University General Regulations, (updated on 20 April 2018 following the update of the Articles of Association).

History of Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma

1988 - Archbishop Álvaro del Portillo, Prelate ofOpus Dei, suggests to some professionals and teachers, members of the Prelature, together with others who share its ideals the promotion of a university clinic in Rome offering solutions to the reality of pain and illness drawing on the Christian spirit of service. A first working group, the "Pensatoio", began with the aim of giving a concrete response to Archbishop Álvaro's suggestion, designing an institution of excellence and capable of lasting over time. The founders therefore studied the feasibility of establishing a nonstate university and started the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery with an adjoining directly managed general hospital.

1990/1991 - Establishment of the Campus Bio-Medico Association and Campus Bio-Medico Spa, promoters of the University.

1993 - The Libero Istituto Universitario Campus Bio-Medico (CBM) begins its activities with the Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery and the Diploma in Nursing Sciences (today Degree Course in Nursing). The Amici del Campus Association, a supporter of the University, was born.

1994 - The University Hospital, then located in via Longoni in Rome is inaugurated.

1999 - The Faculty of Engineering was born with bachelor's and master's degree courses in Biomedical Engineering. The Degree Course in Dietetics is activated. With the birth of the second Faculty, the institution assumed the definitive name of Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome.

2000 - Inauguration of the Center for the Health of the Elderly (CESA), built with the support of Alberto Sordi on the land of the future university campus in Trigoria (southern area of ​​Rome).

2001 - Activation of Schools of Specialization of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. The Continuing Education School is established for the organization and coordination of masters's and professional refresher courses. Today the Postgraduate Service of the University is also accredited as ECM (Continuing Medical Education) Provider by the Ministry of Health.

2003 - Italian President, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi receives the staff of Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the University.

2007 - A Three-year Degree Course in Food and Human Nutrition Sciences is activated, to be followed three years after by the corresponding master's degree.

2008 - The new university campus in Trigoria is inaugurated on 14 March. The University Hospital and the Advanced Research Pole in Biomedicine and Bioengineering (PRABB) are open, next to the existing Center for the Health of the Elderly (CESA). A Radiotherapy Center remains located at the previous site of the University in via Longoni in Rome. Activated is the Degree Course in Medical Radiology, Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy Techniques..

2010 - The Faculty of Engineering turns ten years old and renews its training offer. Starting with the 2010/2011 Academic Year, the Degree in Industrial Engineering, preparatory to the master's degreecourse in Biomedical Engineering and Master's degree course in Chemical Engineering for Sustainable Development. Three years after the activation of bachelor's degree course in Food and Human Nutrition Sciences, the first of its students graduate.

2013 - The University celebrates its first twenty years with the inauguration of a new teaching center. Due to its shape, the structure enters university life with the name Trapezio. Also in 2013, the University opens its first branch outside Rome: an outpatient unit of Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatry in Milan at the Mafalda Luce Center. 

2014 - The University Hospital gets Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditationfrom the independent body that certifies adherence to standards of excellence in the health sector. The health, teaching, and research activities carried out within the hospital meet over 300 quality and safety standards recognized worldwide.

2016 - Inauguration of the new Nursery Center for children from 0 to 6 years. Anti-seismic and ecosustainable, it is created for the children of company employees and is also open to families in the city.

2017 - The University Hospital is equipped with a new trigeneration plant capable of covering the entire heating and air conditioning needs of the hospital and 62% of the University's electricity needs, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 30 percent. The JCI accreditation is also confirmed for the hospital for a new three-year period.

2018 - Starting with the Academic Year 2018/2019, the Degree Course in Physiotherapy is added.

2019 - The master's degree course in Food Science and Technology and Supply Chain Management and achievement master's degree program in Medicine and Surgeryyare activated. The Departmental Faculty of Science and Technology for Man and the Environment was born; in 2023 it was renamed Faculty of Science and Technology for Sustainable Development and One Health

2020 - At the forefront of research and assistance against Covid-19, a 40-bed Covid center opens, active from 1 April to 15 June. The new Master's degree course in Intelligent Systems Engineeringis born. On 1 September, the Emergency Department (level I DEA) was inaugurated, and on 16 December the center for palliative care, Together in Care.

2021 - The Covid-19 Vaccine Center opens. The Emergency Department reopens on 12 July, after nine months of closure to manage the second pandemic wave with the Campus Covid Center 2.0. The Campus Bio-Medico University Polyclinic Foundation is born, established by Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma and its promoting bodies, Campus Bio-Medico Association and Campus Bio-Medico Spa. 

2022 - The management of the hospital passes to the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital Foundation. The Degree Courses in Medicine and Surgery MedTech (single-cycle master's degree) and in Biomedical Engineering (three-year) are born. 

2023 - The Departmental Faculty of Science and Technology for Man and the Environment is renamed Faculty of Science and Technology for Sustainable Development and One Health.
