The art and science of crafting happiness

Presentation of the program

The program of Human Flourishing proposed in collaboration with the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard's Institute for Quantitative Social Science (https://hfh.fas.harvard.edu/) aims to offer a practical education in human flourishing and the exercise of virtues. Through anthropological-philosophical reflection, stimulated by questions, group work and positive psychology exercises, students will be able to consider their own lives from a new perspective and take concrete steps in the growth of human virtues and self-realization.

Program contents

The program will explore the dimensions of the flourishing human through anthropology, positive psychology and empirical studies (https://www.pnas.org/doi/pdf/10.1073/pnas.1702996114). The program will focus on five areas:

  1. Happiness and satisfaction with one's life [happiness and life satisfaction]
  2. Meaning and purpose [meaning and purpose]
  3. Virtue and character [virtue and character]
  4. Close social relationships [close social relationships]
  5. Physical and mental health [physical and mental health]

The program fits into the University's mission and offers students a space to engage in self-care and reflection on their place in the world. An opportunity to pause and reflect on their life path.

Skills acquired in the program

The course will provide students with the opportunity to develop various skills and competences for their personal and professional growth, including:

  1. Self-determination
  2. Self-directed learning
  3. Critical self-evaluation
  4. Critical thinking
  5. Active listening
  6. Effective communication
  7. Adaptability in interpersonal contexts

Program details

  • Duration: from March 17 to March 21, with a two-hour introductory lesson the previous week (the date will be communicated at a later time);
  • Daily lessons from 17.00pm to 19.00pm;
  • 3 extracurricular credits;
  • The program will be delivered in English;
  • Participation will be guaranteed to students from all study courses until the maximum number is reached;
  • Participants will be given four questionnaires for research purposes (completing the questionnaires and completing the exercises will be necessary requirements to obtain the 3 credits);
  • Also for research purposes, students who cannot participate in this edition due to lack of places will be selected as a control group. They will be required to participate in two questionnaires. For their participation, 1 extracurricular credit will be recognized;

  • Participation is reserved for students who did not take part in the March 2024 Program.

Interested students are invited to submit their application for participation as soon as possible.

Program Details

  • Duration: March 17–March 21, with a two-hour introductory lecture the previous week (exact date to be announced);
  • Daily sessions from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM;
  • 3 extracurricular credits;
  • The program will be conducted in English;
  • Open to students from all degree programs until the maximum number of participants is reached;
  • Participants will be required to complete four research-related surveys. Completing these surveys and participating in the exercises will be mandatory to obtain the 3 credits;
  • For research purposes, students who are unable to join this edition due to limited availability will be selected as a control group. They will be required to complete two surveys and will receive 1 extracurricular credit for their participation;

  • Participation is reserved for students who did not take part in the March 2024 Program.
