Scheduled in UCBM the seminar "Blepharoptosis: diagnosis and treatment; Reconstruction of the eyelids” regarding blepharoptosis and eyelid reconstruction. It will be held by the surgeon Carlos Alberto Affonso Ferreira, from the Federal University of Sao Paulo in Brazil and specialized in oculoplastic surgery. Doctor Ferreira will particularly illustrate the diagnoses and treatments relating to blepharoptosis. This anatomical deficit, also called eyelid ptosis, consists of the drooping of one or both upper eyelids and can be stationary or progressive. Eyelid drooping is attributable to injury or paralysis of the oculomotor nerves or elevator muscles of the eyelid. The main causes can be congenital, acquired or more simply due to aging. When it is impossible to cure the underlying cause of blepharoptosis it is necessary to resort to blepharoplasty; in this way the patient will not only obtain benefits on an aesthetic level, but will gain an undisputed functional advantage.
