Biography
Francesco Branda was born in Calabria in Belvedere Marittimo (CS) in 1994 and currently holds the position of Fixed-Term Researcher of type A (RTD-A) at the Faculty of Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry of theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, where he teaches several courses in medical statistics. His research focuses on the integration of medical statistics, digital epidemiology, and epidemic intelligence systems, with a particular focus on the genomic and epidemiological surveillance of emerging infectious diseases, including SARS-CoV-2, mpox, and avian influenza, as well as climate-sensitive diseases such as dengue and chikungunya. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications, including articles in high-impact journals such as The Lancet. He actively collaborates with World Health Organization (WHO) initiatives, such as the Collaboratory and the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN), as well as with international academic partners, for the development of AI-based surveillance systems to support the One Health approach and global health resilience. For his contributions to promoting open science, the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare, and strengthening pandemic preparedness, he was included in Fortune Italia's 2024 "40 Under 40" list and received the 2024 Magna Grecia Awards, in recognition of the quality of his research and his commitment to disseminating scientific knowledge.
