Giovanni Mottini

Biography

Graduated in medicine and surgery, specialist in infectious diseases and with a university degree in public health and tropical medicine.

An expert in international cooperation, he has coordinated cooperation projects in various developing countries (Peru, Albania, Congo, Nicaragua, Cameroon, Uganda, Kenya and Madagascar) in the sector of public health and health education.

He is currently responsible for the international university cooperation projects ofUniversità Campus Bio-medico di Roma, aimed at professional training and bio-medical research aimed at solving the health problems of the populations of the South of the world.

Coordinates a Humanitarian Aid Course at the same university.

From June 2008 to June 2011 he was president of Harambee Africa International Onlus: an institution aimed at supporting educational projects in Africa and spreading a positive and proactive image of Africa through communication and awareness activities.

Currently President of the Scientific-Cultural Committee of the same institution.

Member of the Board of Directors of the NGO Institute for Development Cooperation (ICU).

He is editor of the book "Medical Humanities: human sciences in medicine", and author of essays on international cooperation and scientific articles listed in PubMed.

Teaching and teaching activity

During the a.y. '97-'98 he was lecturer in human sciences (anthropology, ethics and psychology) at the Institut Superieur de Sciences Infirmières (ISSI) of Kinshasa (DRC).

Since October 98 he has been professor and coordinator of the medico-social module of the "European Master in Humanitarian Aid": NOHA of ECHO (European Union Office for Humanitarian Aid) at the Chair of Social Medicine of the La Sapienza University of Rome .

Since March 1999 he has been a contract lecturer for the social medicine course of the Medical Degree, the University Diploma in Nursing Sciences and the Degree Course in Food Sciences and Human Nutrition at the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma.

In the 2000-01 academic year he was a lecturer in the course of Management in healthcare at the Campus Biomedical University of Rome.

In May 2003 (26-30/5/03) he organized and coordinated the seminar: « Cours de Méthodologie de la recherche en médécine » at the CEFA-Monkole training center in Kinshasa and carried out teaching activity on the topic entitled: Les aspects éthiques de la recherche bio-médicale.

In November 2004 (3-8/11/04) he coordinated the seminar "Methodology of biomedical research" at the St. Mary Lacor Hospital in Gulu (Uganda) also carrying out teaching activity.

Studies and qualifications

He completed the degree course in medicine and surgery at the universities of Bologna, Milan and Catania.

In the last two years of the course he regularly attended the III Division of General Medicine of the Ferrarotto Hospital in Catania where he produced the experimental thesis entitled: "Ketan¬serine and nifedipine in the therapy of hypertensive crises".

On 31.10.89 he obtained his degree in medicine and surgery with 110/110 cum laude at the University of Catania.

Since 5.12.89 he has been attending the University Institute of Infectious Diseases of Catania as internal doctor. In this capacity he carried out clinical ward and laboratory activities with particular reference to assistance to patients suffering from AIDS, regularly participating in the day-hospital service managed by the Institute.

In the a.y. '89-'90 is first in the ranking in the competition for admission to the school of specialization in infectious diseases at the same university institute where he will obtain the specialization diploma on 28.10.93 with a vote of 50/50 cum laude with a thesis entitled: “On the dynamics of anti-HCV antibodies with 2nd generation RIBA. Study in post-transfusion hepatitis".

From 15.4.97 to 15.6.97 he participated in the "Course of tropical medicine and tropical public health" of the Institut de Médecine Tropicale de Soins de Santé des Armées (IMTSSA) in Marseille, obtaining the corresponding Diplôme Universitaire with an experimental thesis entitled: "Le paludisme à Kinshasa: étude sur la rélation entre degré d'urbanisation et indices paludometriques".
