Prof. Giovanni Gherardi

Biography

Associate Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology (SSD MED/07) since 2017, Qualified as Full Professor since 2020. Deputy Director of the Postgraduate School of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology. Professor of Clinical Microbiology for Degree Courses in Medicine and Surgery, Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Sciences, Food Sciences and Human Nutrition, and for numerous Specialization Schools. Head of the Research Unit "Applied Bacteriological Sciences", with research activities in various fields of Clinical Microbiology mainly in the bacteriological field, such as molecular characterization of bacterial species, study of phenotypic and genotypic mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and virulence factors, comparative studies on bacteriological diagnostic methods, studies on rapid diagnostic tests for the identification of bacterial species and antibiotic sensitivity tests, in particular on rapid microbiological diagnostics of bloodstream infections, studies on antimicrobial stewardship to promote the correct use of antibiotics . Scientific production of about 90 papers in journals with impact factor.
