Giovanni Di Pino was born in Catania in August 1979, spent his childhood in Veneto and adolescence at the foot of Etna, and in 1997 he moved to Rome to study. After various experiences in neuroscience laboratories in the States, in 2003, at the age of 23, he graduated in Medicine and Surgery, 110/110 honors and honorable mention, at the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome.

Professor V.M. Fazio graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1985 and then specialized in oncology in 1989 at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. He is a professor of general and clinical pathology at theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, associate professor since 1991, full professor MED/2006 – 04/A06 since 2. Director of the Specialization Schools in Microbiology and Virology and subsequently in Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry.

Since 2001 he has been director of the Laboratory of Molecular Medicine and Biotechnology, where studies are carried out in:

- Pathology, oncology, and molecular genetics: genetic and epigenetic markers in multifactorial, hereditary diseases, and tumors; epigenetic program, stemness, and neoplastic transformation; individual genetic variability: genetic and epigenetic variants; intratumor heterogeneity.

- Biotechnology and molecular medicine: gene transfer and gene therapy; DNA vaccines and targeted immunotherapy; targeted therapy; development of new molecular diagnostic approaches.

- Molecular-genetic oncology diagnostics: genetic markers for diagnosis, follow-up, prognosis, and treatment choice in solid and blood tumors; PDO organoid models.

- Industrial R&D with chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and biomedical companies.

From 2005 to 2017 he taught Applied Immunology at the Faculty of Molecular Biotechnology Sciences of the University of Bari.

From 1993 to 2025 he was Director of the Experimental Oncology Laboratory of the IRCCS “Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza” in San Giovanni Rotondo (FG) and from 2011 to 2015 Deputy Scientific Director of the same IRCCS.

In 2020, appointed head of the Onco-Hematological Genetics Unit at the Policlinico Univ. Campus Bio-Medico (on leave from 2021).
