The supportive ride against breast cancer is back, early diagnosis is essential

August 20, 2021 - Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in Italy with 54.976 new diagnoses in 2020 in Italy. Thanks to screening and the increasing awareness of women, the majority of malignant breast tumors are diagnosed at an early stage allowing conservative surgical treatments and more effective therapies with a survival rate of 87% 5 years after diagnosis.
The numbers of AIOM - Italian Association of Medical Oncology (2020) highlight the importance of prevention and improvement of lifestyles in the fight against breast cancer. To raise awareness on these issues returns again this year Bicinrosa, the initiative of the Breast Unit of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital scheduled for September 12 in Rome.
A non-competitive bike ride now in its fifth edition which will start at 10.30 (appointment at 10) from Largo Corrado Ricci to wind along a 5 km route through the streets of the centre, as part of the #Vialibera event in Roma Capitale, in collaboration with the Friends of the AssociationUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma Onlus and with the support of Dimensione Suono Roma, ASD Ciclismo Lazio, Medtronic and Siemens Healthineers.
“With Bicinrosa we want to draw women's attention to the issue of breast cancer prevention and treatment, in a difficult moment in which, due to the pandemic, even prevention has suffered consequences. In our University Hospital we have always given the possibility of carrying out checks thanks to the open clinic which can be accessed without a reservation, to carry out the necessary checks when there is a suspicion of breast cancer ", explained the teacher. Vittorio Altomare, head of the Breast Unit and Director of the Complex Breast Unit. "Combining correct lifestyles through sports and healthy eating with prevention is the goal to win this battle”he concluded.
