Recipients and access requirements

The course is primarily open to those who hold a degree in Medicine and Surgery with a specialization in Neurology. It is also open to those in possession of a University Diploma pursuant to Law no. 341/1990, or a Bachelor's Degree under the old system, or Bachelor's Degree, or Specialist/Master's Degree (pursuant to Ministerial Decree No. 509/1999 and Ministerial Decree No. 270/2004 respectively) in:

  • Medicine and Surgery
  • Psychology
  • Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics
  • Pharmacy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Neurophysiopathology techniques
  • Nursing

The access requirement must be achieved within 90 days following the start of the Course. Scholars and/or headache enthusiasts who do not possess the above qualifications will be able to participate as auditors.

Educational objectives

The aim of the course is to provide the learner with the most up-to-date knowledge on headache pathology, from pathophysiology to therapy, integrating the theoretical exposition of all the topics covered with practical exercises on selected clinical cases, sometimes proposed by the learners themselves.
The purpose of the Specialization Course is to put the learner in a position to immediately have operational tools to use in his own daily clinical practice. With this in mind, an internship at one of the partner headache centers of the course is foreseen.
The training program of the Specialization Course provides all the tools necessary to formulate the diagnosis, allow for the appropriate choice of therapy, also on the basis of clinical data on drug efficacy/tolerability, long-term outcome indicators.

Admission procedures:

The application for admission to the course must be submitted by 15 January 2022 using the online procedure available at the following internet address: www.unicampus.it/ucbmacademy and provides for the inclusion of

  • personal data

  • identity document
  • payment of €50 for the admission application

The selection will be made by checking the access requirements and based on the date of submission of the application, until the maximum number of participants is reached.

Didactic structure and thematic areas

The course lasts 8 months and guarantees the acquisition of 10 credits (equal to 250 hours). Its modular and part-time formula makes it compatible and contextual with professional commitments and responsibilities. Each day of the course will be accredited by ECM.
The 10 ECTS are divided as follows

  • 5 credits in teaching and study activities;
  • 2 CFU in internship activities;
  • 3 credits in the elaboration of the project work.

The course is structured in 2 thematic areas:

  • Primary Headaches
  • Secondary headaches

each developed in a 3-day module that includes integrated forms of theoretical activities, individual learning and field experiences.

Internship

During the internship, the learner will support the tutor/s in the clinical activities dedicated to headaches at one of the affiliated facilities in order to acquire the clinical-practical skills in the optimal management of patients suffering from the pathology. In detail:

  • Support in headache clinics and in those dedicated to botulinum toxin, monoclonal antibodies, chronic migraine sufferers and those with drug abuse, etc.
  • Support in the management of patients hospitalized for cessation of addiction
  • Support in the management of patients in Day Hospital or Day Service

The internship activity will be verified by a special certificate attesting the presence and the activity carried out for the foreseen number of hours, signed by the learner and by the facility manager.
The internship will also support the elaboration, under tutorial supervision, of the project works that will be discussed during the final exam.

Height

The enrollment fee for the entire course is €1.500,00, in a single solution or divisible into 2 installments:

  • €750,00 upon enrollment (by 31/01/2022)
  • €750,00 by 30/02/2022

Discounted rate

Discounted rates are available for members of ANIRCEF (Italian Neurological Association for Headache Research), for “Friends of the ASC”* (Association for a Headache School) and for employees of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital. The subsidized participation fee is equal to € 1.000,00 and can be paid in a single solution or divided into two installments of € 500,00 each, with the same deadlines as for the ordinary fee.

*These are all those who have carried out teaching activities or attended one of the Residential Courses of the Headache Training School, specializing in Headache Diagnosis and Therapy.

Title awarded

Participants who complete the course and are in compliance with the administrative obligations will be awarded the title of University Specialization in Diagnosis and Treatment of Headaches.
The recognition of university training credits is linked both to regular attendance and to passing the final exam.
Those who attend the course as auditors will not obtain the title and will not carry out the training activity; they will be issued a certificate of attendance.
