"Here, above all thanks to the great human warmth, I feel at home"

24th November 2016 - Not just Italians in Germany. There are those who, like Sofia Sturm, decide in Dusseldorf to take a flight to Italy, the final destinationUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma. In Sofia's classrooms she has been studying Medicine and Surgery since March 2016 thanks to the Erasmus program, and will remain there until March 2017, having decided to extend her stay in the capital by another six months. "I immediately felt great," she explains. "I consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity to do my Erasmus here: UCBM it is a small university, but new and very organized, not chaotic at all. That's why I decided to stay another semester".

"As soon as I arrived, the International Office provided me with all the information I needed. Furthermore, my classmates have always been nice to me, I could ask them for any doubts. In Germany - continues Sofia - I was in a class with 300 students. Here in UCBM instead we attend lessons in a small and tidy classroom. And you can always go to the lecturers if you have any questions. Some friends, for example, have asked to be able to take exams in English and the teachers have always been very helpful".

Unlike her friends, Sofia has never had to make similar requests to teachers: "My mother is originally from Milan and I learned Italian quite well during my frequent holidays, talking to my grandmother. After so many years living in northern Europe, I finally wanted spend a period in Italy, and its capital seemed to me the best destination. Here, now, above all thanks to the great human warmth, I feel at home: if I found a job in Italy I would move there".

In the meantime, as regards the choice of specialization school, Sofia still has some doubts: "I would like to specialize in Surgery, perhaps in Neurosurgery... We'll see". In the meantime, you continue to carry out your internship (required by the German university from which you come) at the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital: "I have been in the Orthopedics department for a long time, but also in Neurology and Ophthalmology... The University Hospital immediately seemed very organized to me and it is also very convenient to have it just a stone's throw from the lecture halls. I had a great time".

"I particularly appreciate the teaching methodology of this experience. - concludes Sofia - In Italy we study the theory in a much more detailed way, but here the lessons are more interesting to follow thanks to the many examples and videos of the teachers. In Germany I practiced more in the hospital, but the lessons were more boring because the professors just read presentations".
